• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Library search

1. Click on the 'Resources' text link at the top of this page (the old 'Library' is now called 'Resources' in the new forum software).
2. Click on the 'Search resources' text link at the top of the new page.
3. Pick the keywords and/or uploader you want to search for and also pick the categories you want to search in.
4. Once you have made all your selections click on the 'Search' button at the bottom of the page.
5. Scroll through the results to find what you are looking for.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Tako.
I thought I was doing it correctly. I was querying in the wrong space. found what I was looking for with your help.
I was in the old library a lot, but since the change I had not been in it as much. thought the old library was easier to search.

Actually the new search function is way better once you get used to it but it does help if the uploaders include 'tags' to make searching more accurate.

Sadly, we still cannot search for some of the most common text strings like "F4M" or "P47" because they are deemed to be too short or too common. And "F-4M", "F.4M" and "P-47D" are also illegal because of the use of punctuation. And when I have tried enclosing the search string in quotation marks, I have had inconsistent results . . .

So, as Larry says, more use of 'tags' is the way we should be going, especially if these are used consistently . . .

Tags are words used to identify the library item. For example a repaint for something like an A2A North American P-51D Mustang might have the following tags: 'A2A', North American', 'P-51D' and 'Mustang'

Searching for any of those tags will bring up hits, searching for multiple tags will reduce the search total as it zones in closer to the target. The more tags you include the tighter the search results.

When doing the massive file transfer last year I encountered many downloads which gave no clue by their naming to which aircraft they were referring, obviously relying on the accompanying thumbnail, e.g. texture.desert.zip.

I had no hesitation in changing the names of those sort of downloads but leaving the original name of the .zip file intact in order to make searches easier. I edited a number of tags as well.
