Libya 42 scenery

As you wondered how the airfields would blend in in GW3, I have posted the above shots.

As you can see the ones without the background blend in very well :biggrin-new:. The airfield at the edge of Bengazi is quite easy to find....

Cheers,
Huub

I ll have a play around and see if i can make it look better, but its that time of year and it might be a while :biggrin-new:

There is no need to hurry. When you are on the ground you hardly notice it. With a poor navigator like me it is nice to have an easy recognisable airfield :biggrin-new:

I'm still driving around in Piglet's Chevy to locate the LRDG groups you have hidden somewhere. Just driving south for 5 miles is already a challenge for me......

I will have a quick look to see whether I can do something with the textures of the Ju-52. Most Ju-52s which were used in the desert kept their original RLM 70/71/65 scheme, but on some aircraft some additional sand colour was applied as field modification.

Huub

Hi Huub, i have included start points for both camp's, just look for SAS1 and SAS2 in your Libya airfield drop down list, its good news though, if you cant find them, neither can the Africa Korps :biggrin-new:

That solved the mistery! As I didn't have the SAS entries in my drop down list, I knew something was wrong. When I installed the Ju-52 I did this also in my modern FS9 install to make them appear at Duxford. Now the scenery.cfg file from my modern FS9 install was loading in my GW3 install..... Solved and I found the LRDG trucks.

I finished a quick repaint for the AGC Ju-52. It is the 4v+EU from I./KG zvV 172 as seen in Lybia, North Africa in 1942. I will upload a small package in this thread. The package will contain a version with and without mip-maps. Due to the many stripes to simulate the corrugated panels, the non mip-maps version can create an annoying moiré effect. The mip-maps version might be a bit blurry.

Ian (and the rest) feel free to include this repaint in your (future) scenery. As I made a generic splinter scheme I can always create a new repaint in a few minutes.

Cheers,
Huub

The AI is nice but what makes me happy is the appearance of static aircraft models in the most recent sceneries. Some years ago I noticed how much longer it takes for FS to load when the aircraft folder is crammed with planes. It also occurred to me that having an active AI plane probably uses up more processor power than a static model.

To minimize all that I put all my flyable planes except a couple stock ones that are timeless and fit into all the sims, like the Cub and the DC-3, or that ft into particular installations, on my hangar drive and I only take one out to fly it. Aside from those few stockers, all that stays permanently in my aircraft folder are the AI planes. And I minimize those by just having one or two AI planes at any airfield, preferably ones that can be used in numerous places, like a Ju.52 for Luftwaffe bases. Then I populate the airfield with static models.

It works well but has one major drawback - the time it takes to make and place all those static planes and set up the AI. I just don't have time to do much of that and many of the airports I've downloaded are unpopulated and will remain so until I get some time to add static planes and some limited AI to them.

Scenery that comes straight from the box with that part done for me really makes me smile! Enough of that and I just might find some time to fly once in a while!

Mick, search out Static Aircraft Model maker, you'll be adding statics all over the place very quickly :)

Thanks Huub, looks real good, i try'd messing with the paint kit myself, but the corrugation did my head in a bit , i have a few Italy airfield's, some done, one in the pipe line that i can use these very well :encouragement:

interesting that Pete mention's SAMM, sometime's it works for me, sometime's its very buggy, i use MDLX, its slower and the animations are tricky, but i have better results, each to his own i guess, merry xmas all :very_drunk:
