Lost my taxiway path!

Enabled my DX 10 preview in FSX and the taxi path arrows up and disappeared. How do I get them back?

Have you tried starting from a stock airport? Sometimes with addons they sit higher than the stock and hide the pathways.

The cause of your issue is DX10. Loss of taxiway paths is one of the side effects of using DX10 preview. Not sure if Steve's DX10 fixer corrected this.

I have not come across this problem with
Steve's fixer...Fingers crossed.

Have you asked in the DX10 Forum?

First of all, most important thing is to know if DX10 scenery fixer is installed. If so, this problem should not appear this way anymore. Without DX10 scenery fixer, lots of issues are known, especially with custom made addons. Do you get back your taxiways in DX9 mode?

Oh, my - well, let's see -

I've got practically no add-on airports in my FSX so just about every flight starts at a stock airport.

I haven't gone back to DX9 yet, as so far the only other issue I'm getting from DX10 is a sort of "shimmering" effect from some runway surfaces, where it seems to flicker between being there and not being there, very rapidly. It seems the benefits of DX10, at least on my setup, so far seem to outweigh the disadvantages.

I haven't added anything yet to try to counteract these issues yet, but the kindly-provided links to the fixers will be tried and I will report results.

PS - I haven't noted any frame rate drops yet from being around clouds but will check on it.

Tried Steve's old but trusty fixer for DX-10 problems (BTW everything he describes in what it can fix is what I'm seeing in my display). After activating the batch file for the fix, I saw the following in a "Windows Script Host" dialog box:

Can not find script file
"C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\wz7180\Shader Release v3.2.3\dowork.vbs".

Here it is, verbatim:

"0) Unpack the installation package somewhere,

1) run setup.bat - you should do this as the user who owns the FSX installation - you should NOT normally need to run as administrator to do this"

So, I put the setup.bat file on my desktop, double-clicked on it - here's what it came up with - a dialog box saying,

"Can not find script file "C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\dowork.vbs.".

I'm not a huge fan of ambiguous install instructions and to me.. that's ambiguous mate. I'd have extracted the package to a new folder (probably of the same name) then run the batch file from there so that all the constituent parts are in one place. So.. if the original file was called FileX for example.. I'd extract it to a new folder of the same name (so I know where I am) then run the batch file. If that doesn't work.. maybe Bjoern can shed some light!:biggrin-new:

Took your advice. Picked up the package last evening. Installation was trouble-free. Took one short hop. Clouds now seem more realistic, more "volumetric," they have shadows on their undersides, the sun passes through them in a realistic, winking manner. I've noticed ground features like hills/mountains now leave shadows down-sun. Are these things I should be seeing?

EDIT: Forgot to report I also have my taxi path markers back.

Back in the day, I just unzipped the free shader fixes as they were and ran setup.bat. Since the paths in the batch file are relative, the .vbs scripts should be found without issue.

Buying Steve's DX10 tools was the better option though. There's much more in there than the fixes contained in the free package.
