Massa says modern F1 better than Senna era

If you take the 'Senna era' to be from 1983 up to his demise in 1994 then Massa is talking garbage (as usual).
In an unusually intelligent move the governing body decided to reduce fuel allowances on a yearly cycle for Turbos which allowed the normally aspirated cars to become competitive.
Sadly, 1986 saw the last of the '1000HP+' engines but the sight of Ivan Capelli's March Judd passing Senna's McLaren Honda down the straight in Portugal a year or so later was impressive!
Consider the variety of engine builders over that time, TaG-Porsche, Ferrari, Honda, Renault, Alfa Romeo, BMW and Cosworth Ford (T/C and NA) down through Illmor, Zakspeed, Hart, Judd along with several variations of the venerable DFV.
We had more entrants than the mandated number of race numbers could handle along with a plethora of teams trying to make the cut.
Variety!!!
Even during the last few years the front of the field was 'quite' competitive, with McLaren, Ferrari, Williams and Bennetton as the main contenders.
Plus the midfield runners could be relied upon to generate plenty of skin and fur.
Phillipe needs to remember his own record, always a #2 driver.
