Memory Leak & Defrag Utility

WarHorse47

SOH-CM-2024
Hi, all. Happy Saturday.

I'm looking for a good, freeware utility to deal with RAM memory leaks and defrag.

I've used a couple products in the past, and was wondering what others are using and what you might recommend.

This would be for Windows XP, BTW.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Dogknot. But what I'm looking for is a different application. I use Diskkeeper for my hard drive. What I'm looking for is something to free up RAM, Random Access Memory.

My computer has a lot of applications for home and work. In the morning, for example, my anti-virus and other programs check and install updates. And I use MS Outlook for e-mail. The wife might use MS Word for a letter, and I might open Explorer for the internet.

The available RAM in my machine should be around 630 Mb. I use FS Autostart for FS9, which closes down background programs and allows me to have as much as 830 Mb free of RAM.

So what I'm looking for is some stand alone freeware that I can activate from the desktop at any time I feel I need to free up and possibly defrag RAM for faster, overall performance.

Thanks, again.

Ken Salters newest program AlricityPC has a mem defragger included..Not sure if its stand alone or not though...

Found this site...

http://www.acelogix.com/index.html

I'm trying their freeware RAM Optimizer.

Harleyman, the FS AutoStart I use was an earlier product created by Ken Salters, I believe. I've looked at AltricityPC, and it looks really good for just FS9. But haven't had the opportunity to try it out.

Dogknot, I current do use two of UniBlue's products. They're both payware. Their RegistryBooster is a good product. I like it. I also have their SpeedUpMyPC 3 with the memory defrag, but don't like it as much. It does a good job, but everytime I use it I have to reset all my logins and passwords on all the forums. I have it setup not to delete those cookies, but it does it anyway. I use it on occassion, but avoid it because it causes me more work.

Thanks again for all your responses, guys, and feel free to add more suggestions. I'll let you know how the Free Ram Optimizer program works out.

I have used Alricity PC for all games ....

Even on Vista 64

Where can one find FS Autostart? Back in the days of Win98, I used Enditall, but haven't found anything for XP.

Just thought I would say, doesnt rebooting your computer clear the Ram? Maybe do a shutdown for a couple of min's, then restart?

When I work with 20 meg PSD graphics files, have a huge model in Gmax holding pattern, have FSX and or FS9 continuously booting up, sometimes I start having glitches from low memory, and a simply reboot gets me back to new again.

Yup...You are correct...A reboot clears out the memory too...Forgot about that ....Duh.............

I've used RamBooster for years with no problems, but it doesn't defrag. It's not state of the art any more, but it's simple to use, but I have a simple mind.
