• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

MM's Melbourne Meanderings

A cold beer and a hot curry. Sounds just right.

We'll have the Beech twins, of two generations, criss-cross here in India.

A couple of Kodaks. First, setting out from Karachi as dawn breaks over the Indian subcontinent.

And then, switching off at Allahabad and asking directions into town looking for a fellow Yank.

Down safely in Rangoon (VYYY).

Had a moment there over the Bay of Bengal. Turned away for a few minutes and handed the aircraft to my trusty sidekick, Lear. When I returned to the left seat, he (cough cough) had forgotten to switch tanks and the aircraft had descended 8,000 feet toward the water below. Well, all is well that ends well.

(Also a brief glitch with the Deunna server not ending the flight. Maybe that explains the lack of a map...?)

And then into Seletar. Thunderstorms all along the Gulf of Siam but pushed through the rain and wind for a chance to enjoy Raffles tonight.

Thanks, Robert. Let's meet at Raffles' Long Bar and start by sipping a Singapore Sling, Ngiam Tong Boon's iconic concoction. After the sweet gin, we might switch to a few pure Scottish whiskeys to properly cleanse the mind.

Here is a photo of the famed Raffles bartender Ngam Tong Boon. He, or members of his his family, likely served such literary clients and alcohol connoisseurs as Somerset Maugham and Ernest Hemmingway. And then a photo of Raffles a couple of years ago, in 1932.

After an extended period in a strange place called real life, the pilot jumps back into the left seat...

Heading out from Darwin for Charleville (YBCV). Headwinds may require a diversion...we'll see.
