The plane looks fantastic but I'll pass my turn.
I don't blame anyone (business is business and I respect that) but I remember the time before the crash when we were talking of a donationware project and dreaming of Jan's repaints to come. It was light years ago...

Like many I've been looking forward to this release with great anticipation.
The price IS a little steep, but compared to some of the things I throw money away on it doesn't seem too excessive.
I'm going to be waiting for some of the dust to settle and some questions to be answered. I think a lack of freely available repaints might be a deal-breaker for me.
I suppose the repaint policy as stated may be a condition of the license?
It must be a little tough to release a pricey addon like this so soon after the SectionF8 Sabre came out.

I'm terribly disappointed. I waited a long time for this. Watching it "grow" on-line here. Thought it was going to "reasonable" donationware, not gougeware. Sorry to say, I'll let this one go. :isadizzy:

" Gougeware" is right. When they have the temerity to ask for twice the amount for one aircraft, than Microsoft got for their whole Flight Simulator program with all it's aircraft, they can sit on it.

I suspect the repaint policy, AND the price is affected by the license, judging by the recent thread about Cessna and their policies towards fs addons.

Does anybody know if a company like say Boeing charges a royalty for a P-51 add-on for FS?

I agree.....I'm sorry John....."no repaints" means...."no money".
I can not justify the money I would have to spend to get this plane. I sincerely hope this does not lead to alot of piracy of you hard worked on plane. Its my prediction it will.......I'm sorry.

I'm not going to pay that for a FS9 version and I am really hesistant to pay that for the FSX version, not for the content offered, which is no doubt of high quality, given the available screenshots.

As far as I am concerned, forget it, it may be the best P-51 around, but it's overpriced (I think), it's too restrictive (I think), and the pre-sales service is non-existent (I know).
Should anybody have any wishes for particular D-model repaints, I'm always happy to please (as long as John allows me to use his paintkit that is).
Good luck with the sales, I'm keeping my money, at least for now.

Sorry, IMHO this price is way too high! We all know that FSX models take a lot of extra time, but this must be the highest price (per model) we have seen in FS9. This, at a time when FS9 models are usually a cheaper option. I was tempted when I saw it first, less so when I read the re-paint ban and now will not be a customer at all. Shame really, but I guess I will get over it.

been doing some more thinking....oh oh....but here it goes...
As we have all noted John has not and I assume will not repond to any of the issues we have shown our concern for. Its now my guess that this aircraft was bought out from John. When it was bought out from under John I'm sure he got a certain amount of well deserved money but...along with that money can the understanding that there would be no paint kit, I assume possibly an agreement from John to do another certain number of paints so that they too could be sold, and finally I'm sure this deal included the fact that John can not discuss our issues with the release. I also wonder that it might be part of the agreement that John got part of his money up front and the rest would be determined accoriding to sales.
After taking a trip to my local hobby shop and seeing the prices I'd be paying for a good 1/48th scale model from Hasegawa I realized something as I was walking to the registor.....am I going to build this $65.00 kit now and just go put it sit on the shelf to sit. See where I am going with this yet? Well...I then said to my self..."SELF".....why not put this kit back and buy this P-51 I have been dying to get and fly instantly for the exact same money?
So.....after doing this thinking.....trying to rationalize this quandry...Do I support something I am totally against, no repaints and buy new ones, or do I say no and not support it. I want to stand my ground but I also need to remember John in this issue. John has been with this project for over a year now and we have all supported it including myself.
So in closing here is what I am going to do......I am going to go against my initial rejection of this project BUT!!!!!!!! before I do buy this I must say this....
John I beg of you not to deal with these people ever again. Your work is too damn good to be treated like this. I know there are others out there who would be most willing to market your product on better terms than this. You are young and a master at what you do......don't let these leaches take advantage of you.

Sorry, going to have to pass on this one. Sad days ahead for high end FS models and the greed of folks like Boeing and Lockheed causing the prices to be this high. Will stick with my SU and SW/A2A models.

Guys, let me say that the support that I have been shown through working for Warbirdsim has been superb. The best aspect about it is that it is rooted in a passion for reproducing high end WWII aircraft. Albert himself I think spent just as much time on the flight dynamics as I spent on modeling and texturing the aircraft, to make sure the flying qualities are extremely close to how the real thing flies and operates (not to mention his work on the sound recordings and just about everything else). Perhaps the next release will be something that has not been done quite so much, or at all. I can fully understand that with so many Mustangs available today, that just sticking with them is well enough for some. When I began this project last year, and then began it over again at the beginning of this year, there was a significant change in attitude about the project. It was no longer the thought of perhaps seeing what I could make with GMAX, and stopping at a certain point with it, it became a quest to build the ultimate P-51 experience that has been done to date, in particular the P-51B and C, no matter what platform you can think of. I am not going to answer many of the questions myself because I am not in that position to do so. It is better handled by those who are in charge of that arena. I have seen the basis of the research behind each decision - none of them were made without plenty of foresight.
I know that we have many amazing repainters on this site, who are trustworthy individuals, with much more talent than I, most of whom I like to call friends, and I trust that Albert recognizes this as well. Unfortunately sometimes the decisions made to defeat the bad acts of some individuals can ruin it for others. I don't think that there will be absolutely no choice for repainters, who would really like to add their specialized touch to the product, to create and release repaints for those who purchased the aircraft. There are other methods that may go into play allowing for some aspect of repaints to be made and distributed by users of the product. Repaint packs and subsequent variants are being produced to enhance the product as it comes currently, which I should remind you contains five separate models, and eight separate textures, but if I have to lower my income from these just to make them easier for those who have purchased this release, and want them, I will do so.
If there is any sense of a lack of response on the part of Albert, I'd just like to state for him that he has a spell of the flu currently, and I expect that he will show more involvement in the discussions once he is feeling better.
I would really like to thank those who have purchased the aircraft thus far. I can't express how much it means to me. Every screenshot you show will make the endless days, weeks, and months worth it. I would also like to personally thank Milton Shupe and Wozza for the overwhelming amount of tutoring and advice that I received which helped me to finally know my whereabouts in both GMAX and XML coding. Through their help, my dream of having my P-51B/C came to life.
As for framerates, I am curious myself. I have tested it on low end machines and didn't notice any frame rate hit at all - machines that date back to 2001 and 2002. I may have actually been too overly focused on making a frame-rate firendly aircraft.
