NEED HELP! (Trying to change MaxFPS in CFS3)

trek

Members +
Hey Guys,
Just got back into CFS3 after installing OFF3. I'm doing some of the same tweaks for CFS3 that I did in OFF.
I've gone into the CFS3 Default Folder, then into the CFS3.xml Folder opening it with notepad. I'm trying to change the MaxFPS="0" to "40".
I was able to successfully do this in the OFF3 CFS3.xml Folder but when I try to save it in CFS3 I get a popup box with this message:

cannot create the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 3\default\cfs3.xml file

"make sure that the path and file name are correct."

What am I doing wrong here, and how do I fix it?

heres a good page to go to, http://www.com-central.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=118

the 3rd section down will explain about max fps .I did this and i was very very surprised at how well the game played
hope this helps
By the way u said it looks like u did everything right as squiffy said check the write protect and also check to make sure that u didnt do a type error and forget the "
also i just checked the xml on both off and cfs3 and they are both the same so u could try and copy and paste the off xml and place it in the cfs3 and see if that works

Thanks Guys, The copy and paste tip did the trick!

To Nonato, the Max=FPS tweak keeps the program from overloading the PC Hardware by choosing a limit on the FPS, hence, achieving an overall sometimes boost in FPS and smoother framerate. Its' worked great on OFF3 and somewhat better on CSF3. Give it a try and see if it works on your rig.

I went with 30 at first, I now have it at 40 FPS. Depends on your system and GC card. Start with 25-30 FPS and go from there.

yeah as trek says it does help for alot more smoother framerate, give it a try but as always save a copy of the original just in case u dont like the change etc,but from older threads thati remember i never saw anyone who didnt like this tweak,to me it is one of the better tweaks to try out

Well, I tried in"40" and didn't like the result. My game ran less smoothly than with "0". I haven't tried anything else...Do you think that I should try to put a higher number there? Or lower?

N.

Nonato, go with a lower number, say 25-30. And go to the OFF3 website: Under their FAQ, they have a list of tweaks you can do in the CFS3 config. Combine these changes with the FPS change. The OFF3 FAQ is geared for OFF3, but you can do the same tweaks in CFS3's config. Also in the config files try turning off chat, warning messages as well.
Experiment with these changes and you should see some improvement. It's basically all trial and error.

ive never went above 30,according to the tweak guide usually anything between 24-30 will have better results

Depends on your GC and chip. When I went from 30fps to 40fps, I got a visible boost in FPS. I have a ATI Radeon 4850 card and a Intel Duo-Core E8500 3.16Ghz chip, 4MB Ram, Vista 32-bit OS.

This is odd. At MaxFPS="0", I'm capped at 60 FPS anyway. I get a consistant 58-60 as it is on "0". I still get an occasional drop to the 30's. I set it to "30" and it looked crappy to me after seeing 60fps for so long I guess.
