New Memory

noddy

SOH-CM-2025
I have upgraded my memory from DDR2-6400 800mhz to DDR2-8500 1066mhz.

However it still only showing 800mhz?

I am running Vista Ultimate 32 bit, with 4gb of RAM. The PC is a Dell XPS 720 H2C which states that it can go up to this speed.

Oh shoot m8.... i think your screwed.
Many DDR2-8500 modules are primarily encoded as 6400's on the SPD, the 1066mhz speed is usually unlocked via EPP which requires an Nvidia chipset motherboard, for automaticly setting the speed.
It is compatible and run with other motherboards but to get the 1066mhz speed it and the timings must be set manually.

And heres where i think you might be out of luck, if your DELL is anything like ive experienced with DELL computers you will not be able to do this as on many of their previous models they have locked away the advanced BIOS options.
But thats where i would start looking anyway just in case, to see if you have any options for speed and timings in the BIOS.

Glad to be of service...LOL

Glad to hear you sorted it out...Is it linked???

As Alex stated, need to go to the BIOS screen and enable via there. Now showing the correct 1066Mhz :ernae:

Now the question is do I up grade the GTX8800 to GTX285! The memory for the 32 bit is now at max, unless I go up to 64 bit.

8800GTX if your going to stick with 32-bit and use the 3GB switch. GTX285 if you don't use the 3GB switch or willing to upgrade to a Vista64.
Allthough personally i would choose the 9800GTX+ over the 8800GTX, but thats just me.

The 8800 ultra is more than enough for FSX...try it for a while and see....
