I'm looking forward to a decent tax return for a change, and I'm looking to put together a new flight rig. I'm not looking to build the most absolute extreme machine, but I do want to build something that I won't need to upgrade next month. I thought about getting one of Tiger Direct's "Bare Bones" kits and adding from there, but I couldn't find that "just right" combination. So I've put together a list of parts I think would work well together, and I'm looking for an opinion or six from the hardware guru's here.

Looks like a nice system Tom!

Personally I think I would go for 'just' 8Gb Ram and invest the extra $50 in a better videocard like the 650Ti maybe.

The case is the same as I have; very roomy, a real joy to work in. Great cooling but with the side effect that it works great as a vacuum cleaner. It needs to be cleaned inside at least twice a year.
 
After I posted this, I realized I'd forgotten to add an optical drive! I went to my local Intrex store and they did an estimate for me cam in at only about $40 more with in-store assembly and warranty and includes a DVD-RW. Unfortunately, the "financial advisor" has changed her mind as to where some of the money needs to go, so now it looks like I misght be getting a laptop instead. Oh well...

BTW, I could give a large rodent's posterior about "X," but I'm guessing if it runs that well, it'll run P3D well too.

Could you post them here as well? My 6 year old laptop feels like it is about to expire. Lot's of problems lately and I don't want to pay to have the motherboard reflowed as there is no guarantee it will last.
