Optical Drive reader

FSX68

Looking for recommendation(s) as to a good Optical reader program (preferably freeware) that will identify the manufacture of the DVD drive and other info.

Thanks.

The Device Manager on your Windows OS should be able to provide the manufacturer and model #. From that, you should be able to find anything available for it on the web.

Edit: On this laptop, the DVD is listed as "slimtype," but searching for the model # reveals it as Philips/Lite-On.

Edit 2: If you're running a desktop and you're familiar with the inner mechanicals, you could always pop the drive out and check the label (assuming that the label is readable).

The way I would do it is to open the PC up and pull the DVD out (and while at it, clean out those 'rug bunnies' out with some caned air). The other way is to download SiSoft's Sandra Lite (free for home use). It's 56 Mb and does 'push' programs (pays the rent?) but you can side step all of that and in the end have a complete set of data concerning your system info. And I do mean COMPLETE. It's always been the BEST. Others are just copy cats. cNet lets you download this program without first installing a 'downloader' (calls home, etc).
