P-3 Thread continued...

Open beta of my RNoAF P-3B HW "602" if any would like to help me out with getting the details right.

It currently has new 2048x2048 textures with completely redrawn panel lines, rivets, windows, decals and stencils, spinner/prop decals etc. I think the hi vis decals really helps to bring out the smaller details.
It is to be used with the NP-3D model only as it is the model which currently looks closest to the Bravo.

Thanks!

Of course the RP-3D :) I believe it was mixed up in the aircraft cfg file released by KBT for the RP download and I sort of kept on using the wrong designation myself as well.

Looking into making a USN Bupers SDC Dallas ("NAWCS-23") scheme (or lack of it..) for the LSRS model. With the Bravo model textures more or less finished it is just to paint the extra smaller windows and buoy launcher tubes.

The last insignia of VP-91 (there were three, total) was a reversion to the symbolism of the first VP-91, a Black Cat squadron in WWII. This design was approved by CNO on 7 October 1991. The black cat of the circular insignia was prepared to pounce on a periscope protruding from the sea. In the background was a stylistic v-shaped dart and distant shoreline.

The Black Cat represented the original call sign of the first VP-91; the periscope represented the primary mission of antisubmarine warfare; the red, white and blue dart represented the colors of the national ensign; and the shoreline, or land, represented the point of departure of P-3 aircraft. In a scroll across the top of the design was the logo BLACK CATS, and across the bottom the squadron designation PATRON NINE ONE. Colors: background, white; cat, black; eyes, yellow with black pupils; mouth, red with white fangs; claws, white; dart, red, white and blue; land, brown; sea, white and blue; periscope, gray; letters, black on white background. Just a heads up. To get Jen,s Norweigen RNoAF_602 repaint in all it's glory, use the texture CFG from the USN_VXN-8_Paisano Tres repaint. Class repaint as always Jens.

Regards Paul Day.

Jens;

What a super job. I guess I'm going to have to make up a 2048 paint kit to do the last P-3 of my series. The detail is awesome ! :encouragement:

Check your stencil just above the rescue arrow to the rear of the door. It's either in Norwegian or reversed. :wink-new:

Again, a really great paint job and you say it's "Beta" !

Joe

Thanks for the kind words. I think going 2048 really bring forward the details and bring life into the P-3. But it certainly also makes the job a lot harder. Not only the remaking of all details, but also researching decals and stencils to find the exact text. Regarding that, do any of you guys know the stencil text on the spinner? I have good pics of the prop blades, but not enough details to confirm the spinner. The perfect reference would be the USN stencil and decal guide... Most other users have kept the USN layout.

I have made stencils for the engine nacelles, but found out thee texture was mirrored on the other side. I had hoped the mapping was with the same left/right on both sides...

Paul, good catch on the texture linking. I'll look into it to make it easier to install for the main release.

Joe, I just noticed the text, which are left over after mking the door texture, after I had posted the file... Typical, but that is the good thing with going beta :)

Paul,

I checked the texture.cfg file and since I have installed the RP-3 in the main P-3C folder it works for me with the current texture.cfg file, but it should definitely be mentioned that users which have the RP-3 as a dedicated model, should use the texture.cfg file from that folder. Thanks again for the catching the cause of a potential email storm from users which don't get it to work... :)

I just found a nice hires pic on Wikimedia commons which shows the stencils on the spinner, so that problem has been solved.

Is there some files that need to be added to get the lights to work? or is everything required included in the zip file?

If you are using the new V3.2 then you will have to copy the lights section contents over to the new aircraft.cfg file (that is what it sounds like)

What I did, was to open both the 3.1 and 3.2 aircraft.cfg files and notate each at the top of each ( v3.1 or V3.2) and save, That way I know which version I am using.
Now I don't know if the Aircraft.cfg for V3.2 change appreciably but I backed it up and used the older V3.1 in its place. That way, I still have all the textures entries and the lights
entries. Btw I noticed that the smoke entries were calling on the CS130 effect file but it was not spelled correctly therefore, no smoke.

Note: I had deactivated (///) some of the line entries. I could of just removed them for clarity sake but this illustrates the old from the new.

Ignore my above post..too late to edit it.

Thanks but I don't have shockwave lights so the above wouldn't work. I did manage to get the lights to work but now there is too many and I can't turn the top red beacon off as well as the belly, they are on all the time. I used this from page 15.
