Philippines Plane Crash Kills 13

This Beech Queen Air declared an emergency (apparently engine trouble) shortly after departing Ninoy Aquino International in Manila headed for Mindoro. He was cleared to make an emergency landing, started to come back around with results as shown. Angle of bank appears to be 50+ degrees, looks like a classic stall but not being a real-world pilot I'll defer to the experts. It hit an elementary school, thank God classes were dismissed.

Airspeed very slow, looks like the left engine is dead? with the oppisite engine running at max power, it could stall like that. And is 13 passengers overloaded? no gear or flaps down, looks like he was trying to make the airport. RIP.

Only two people on the plane, the other fatalities were on the ground. Dense neighborhood in Paranaque, lotta small houses close together. :frown: The TV news reporting is all in Tagalog and my wife is not real good at translating the details. Hopefully she'll pick up some more info on tonight's news. Big story over there because of the bad fire on the ground.

In the Philippines the worst thing you want to hear in your neighborhood/barrio is somebody yelling, "Sunog!" (fire). Local fire departments do the best they can but they're not well equipped and access to some neighborhoods is difficult because of how close the structures are scrunched together. I'm sure the nasty avgas fire after yesterday's crash made a lot of folks homeless.
Oakfloor, I agree with you, kinda looked like his left engine was low RPM or maybe just windmilling. Left turn was a bad idea if the left engine was sick.

You can, in most multi engine aircraft turn into a dead engine..IF you have the correct airspeed as dictated by the flight parameters when "flying on one engine". I dont know if they have a "Feather prop" button?, also dont know if thoses engines rotate oppisite to each other like a P-38, that helps somewhat to keep the wings level depending on the torque from the good engine. But yeah he's way to slow and the good engine sounds like it's beyond the RPM redline, plus he's probly got full right rudder, and right aileron just to maintain control, that adds some drag along with a wind milling three bladed prop..if he had gear and full flaps down I think it would have quit flying long before we saw the video. Looks like a classic stall and and spin into a dead engine. RIP
