Pitts Special

That was quick - you beat me to it!! :costumes: From the looks of it - I have to say it looks like another excellent model and a must download!!

I tried several fixed pitch prop configurations from the default 172 to Ken Stallings' 172N but the S1C (or S1D depending on the viewpoint) is downright horrible in the top end and cruise departments. I can't seem to get it beyond 110 kts now. At this point I put in the prop parameters from the Airhead Super Deke and it now cruises around 120kts, top end estimated around 130kts. Granted it's a c/s prop but at least it's a two-blader....Will continue to see what I can do. I also took the time yesterday to splash some paint on the Pitts and this is what I got. Still a work in progress as well.:kilroy:
 
Took the S1S up for a quick spin around the patch. Makes the S1C look sluggish in response. Not sure if the real thing was that twitchy but I definitely like the 2d panel on the -S better than the -C. Same engine and prop data as the earlier plane but for some reason the tach wouldn't go any higher than 2200 rpm. I also got the impression that the prop control on the 2d panel was inoperative. All in all not bad.:applause:
PS-I especially like the additional touches to the visual model like the hydraulic disk brakes-nice.:d
 
I have modified the engine of the Pitts special s1s to 180hp lycoming and have put the correct prop in the cfg. If you have the LIC christian eagle I suggest that you copy the airfile in the pitts s1s folder.

With these settings the aircraft flys at 170-180kts full throttle
 
Tried the new fixed-pitch prop settings in the S1D. Top end with an O-320 is around 150kts balls-to-the-wall, cruise around 130-135kts. I noticed it takes a while to get there however. On takeoff the tach was reading somewhere around 1800 rpm and it never got to 2700rpm at full speed; seemed to be around 2300 if that. Just wondering if this is normal? All told I can live with it. However, every time I put on a fixed-pitched prop the engine dies at closed throttle at slow speeds. Anyone out there know how to fix this?

Just don't raise it so high that you have to set the paking brake just to be able to hold short at the runway.

Interesting find - I just checked the Aviat Aviation / Pitts website and could only find the specs for the S-2C model.
The numbers for that version suggest that the weight and balance numbers are closer to the lower set of numbers listed.

Well, I just sent an email asking for permission; if they are cool with it I'll do it. I'll probably have to get a new password here; last time I uploaded anything here was a couple of computers ago and I cannot find the old password. Give it some time and we'll see what happens. Also found the repaint works on the S1S model as well.:d

Hey all,
no response yet about the repaint but it's only been like a day or so. I was just thinking that at the rate they keep putting out Pitts aircraft we might get to see one of these beauties for our Esteemed Sim...:jump:
