Down safe at Jackson Hole. The duenna track shows a maximum altitude of 9978 feet. That's where I was sure I busted the 10K "soft ceiling" clause. I was flying through this cloud and suddenly saw pine trees. In the clouds, yes, inside the clouds, if you can believe it. I said, "hey, what are those pine trees doing way up here in the clouds?" My passenger was not nearly as impressed as I was by the strange phenomenon. Long story short, and a couple of Gs later, I cleared the ridge.

Fun flight. I was on the 022 radial into KPGA, which is the direct course from KCNY. But soon there appeared giant mountains along that path, so I made the VOR gauge steer me into KPGA on the 025 radial, which got me a bit south east of the direct track, and missed the big hills. Starting to "get" how to use VOR. Very cool.

After a night of wild debauchery, we're off to Furnace Creek (L06). Isn't that a great name for an airport in Death Valley?
 
Going to Lee Vining (O24), at the foot of the Great Sierra Nevada Wall.
 
Hmm. Next stop is Mariposa Yosemite. That's over the top of The Wall of the Sierra Nevada, which is 13000 feet high. I ain't no good at number ciphering, but I think I have to come up with 3000 feet of granite to get through somehow. Off to study my National Geographic map...
