Railworks and Railsimulator are very very similar and I have crossed over stuff from RS into RW, but the MSTS stuff is not compatable with either in to or out of ...
If you buy individual components, you will not see them in pre-existing senarios. In order to see your new stuff, you have to either create your own system and install your components, or you need to open an existing system and edit the senario and insert the component.
Make sense?

Thanks Empeck. I did find it. I had thought I had to Install it. Turned up with only 1 route and it was on the bottom of a long list of routes.

Man... This 390 is just awesome... It leans in turns, has a quieter soundpack.. Only 1 problem. How do I drive it on other routes.. lol.

Looks like its going to be fun learning how to do this. There certainly arent enough missions to run and there could be alot of fun placed into these.
The other day I ran that route that goes from London, out to a small town at high speed. That was pretty fun but I think it needed a few stops in there to break up the long jaunts.

Nice shots Henry.. 
I just fired up RW again for the first time in months, and it crashed.. time and time again :9.. joy oh joy.. Oh well.. Deleted the entire steam folder and reinstalled steam. i'm currently re-downloading all my dlc's.. hopefuly, in another 20 minutes, it'll work.. Please keep your fingers crossed ..

It was nice..7:30 AM and up all night re-downloading all my railworks addons and listening to the sound of those big F7s.. though i gotta admit, i'm a lil bit tired of Barstow..
I couldnt find my original DD-40X i bought from digital trains, so, i splurged a bit and payed for a second one.. still waiting on the download link for that one.. I wish i could figure out the way railworks uses files for models and paints. I might be tempted to make a couple models of my own.. I cant seem to find a GP-35A or B , and the DD-40B is non existant, as are the veranda style gas turbines.. neither is there anything in liveries for Rock Island Lines.. Kinda sad, but the year is only half over so maybe something will turn up somewhere..

Worth getting?

Well, I could get along with this drawback... :d
But is it worth getting?
I mean: Will it make me feel like this?
As I mentioned before, I'm with a railroad museum club, riding some neat stuff like the one above and this here:

So I know how it feels sitting at the throttle...
I know many professional pilots are into flightsimming, even if the sim doesn't support the most important interface between pilot and aircraft (it's the one we use to sit upon...).
So what's it like driving a train with RailWorks?
MSTS - besides all its glitches & bugs - gave a rather nice impression of riding. I particulary loved the perspective when leaning outside the cab of a steam engine.
TRAINZ on the other hand was a tabletop sim, it never gave me the notion of imagining to actually sit inside the cab.
The 'roam' mode was already mentioned. You just climb the train and look where the track will lead you? No schedule to keep or task to fulfill?
Just strolling along?
And what about the scenarios?
Are they like MSTS? Trying to keep the timetable and then sitting in front of a red signal and wondering if it ever will turn green?
Any chance of a easy-to-use editor to tweak the timetable or chosing a different engine?
Or should I better stay with my "full scale" railroad, keeping me happy, even when not driving, but taking a break after some really exhausting carpentry? Like this last weekend's shot:

RailWorks is turning out to be pretty exciting for me. I highly recommend it ... especially if you're the type that enjoys just watching and riding trains. Although, most locos in the RWs (depending on quality of modeler and the like,) allow for in cab driving experience.
And now with the recent release of the German Trains Addition Update, you might find lots of good stuff there for you and your interest.
Me, I'm a problem child. The era of Americana that I want to simulate doesn't exist in many models of rolling stock or building scenery or the like yet (due to its newness I guess,) and unfortunately one can not cross MSTS stuff with RW or the reverse apply. SO, I have to pick up modelling and assest building at the same time that I'm learning how to build routes.
MSTS comes with much more 3rd party stuff, but MSTS is no longer supported by MS the same as MSFSX is no longer supported. MSTS can be found in certain places but I found the cost of the CD in most cases to be a little over priced for the age of the sim, and now possible prospect of it ever being updated.
I bought into the RW thing during the special intro offer and haven't been too disappointed with my purchase as yet.
Not sure what the cost is to you, but well worth it.

the interior cab in RW is good with seating positions on both sides. the main controls are also there and depending on the creator, can get quite advanced. Theres actually someyhing akin to a joystick for railworks and msts, but it's not the same as having your hand directly on the lever, althugh each control is seperate from the others.. There are no 2D views. everything is 3D. in cab, head out of cab, chase camera, you name it, its all 3D ( and some of the most complex xml programming i've ever seen ). Never having been in an enginers seat, i cant say if the experience for you will be real or not. it works for me.. I know just looking out the window, can be quite awesome, with some very unexpected side shows like you see in Henry's "Holy Cow" thread just above this one.. The biggest thing about this sim, like msts is that it isnt just lay dwn track and stand back and watch the little train go in circles.. climb in and drive. just watch where your speed is. i've flipped off several turns because i was moving too fast and not paying attention, run into other trains and watched something akin to the great train wreck of 1890.. it was incredible.. trains and bodies everywhere.. But it was also gamer over.
The switches could use some work. they dont trigger as well as i would like them too, but thats hardly ever a problem..
Scenarios and time schedules can be edited easily. Click an icon and bang, your in the editor and ready to rumble..
I personally believe its quite worth it. maybe there isnt as much available for it yet as there is msts, but honestly, i dont think you can go wrong with it.. Given time, there will definately be as much available.. i myself am looking to model the time period between the zephyrs and the streamlines. it doesnt exist yet, but it will.... I believe that at least..

The good news for me is that the GERMAN RAILROADS team hopped on this train. Some of the routes and rolling stock they built for MSTS in the past (especially East-German routes of the 1970s/1980s) was just great. There are some routes in and around Berlin I know each siding's first name and their MSTS rendition was very authentic with a high recognition value.
As with aeroplanes, I'm not into modern stuff. Anything built since 1970 is just un-interesting to me...
But considering the potential of RW, I'm looking forward to upcoming releases.
