Reading this did NOT make me happy.....

Sadly, greed and personal gain has led America down a path that cannot be reversed. Especially now with such a huge gap in between classes and power. When the elected representatives do not have anything in common with their constituents and fail to listen to those same people, we all lose. They make laws that exempt themselves because they know they arent for the good of the country.

At least in Roman times, retirement from military service was rewarded with land. But like Rome, our future is bleak.

I'm already over 20 years of service in the USAF and will retire in 2 more at 24 years. But it seems that all of my retirement pay will go back to the government for health insurance. I guess I better stock up on cardboard boxes for my retirement home.

I have no choice in this area except to use the VA.. All the other organizations simply look at me and tall me that since i'm a vet and have no other insurance, i have to go to the VA because they wont see me.. So what does the VA do?? They talk to me for five minutes regardless of the problem so they can get their funding and then send me home.. My Back is destroyed to the point that even getting out of a chair is a twenty minute ride through hell, and my lungs are filled to the point i havent had a full breathe in nearly a year.. But you see, i was just a GI.. A comms person. I wasnt an officer, a retiree, or an infantryman, so i dont get any assistance beyond the every now and then nod of the head..
I'll be honest, I love you guys, but i hate the damned VA..

So do I, but I have to use what's available, no thanks to Obamacare.

Pete, I went to the Tricare office in Millington today and asked about this. What they tell me is that it's pertaining to the West zone. We're in the South Zone and they don't know if it's going to apply to us or not. In other words, nothing new learned other than the Tricare people can dance around the issue. But I'm thinking that if it applies to one zone, it won't be long until it applies to all 3. But I did find out that it won't affect Mrs Willy's Tricare for Life. (We're on different Tricare plans) But I really think the Tricare people do know more than they're telling.

I used the VA medical care when I was living down in Arkansas, still have my ID from them, so I think I'm going to go talk to them over at the clinic in Dyersburg that the VA has been trying to get me to use. I hate having to mess with them again, but it might prove to be necessary.

I used Tricare Standard once when I first retired and it was a clusterf--k all the way around.

Hi Willy,

Thanks for the info. Yes, I read that for now it's just the one zone, but it's projected that the rest of the Tricare areas would be included by next Spring. Either way, it doesn't bode well. Bohica. Pete

Perhaps I've just been lucky, but over the past few years I've had excellent care from the VA here in the Chicagoland area. Because of my extremely low income, I fall into the category where all care except dental is free of charge.

This is a true blessing since the meds I have to take managing my diabetes would cost me about $1400/mo out of pocket...

This is the main reason why I've decided not to relocate to a "less expensive" area of the country, because I'm not at all certain that other VA regions would give me the same level of care! :isadizzy:

You can move down to South Georgia. I get really great care and like you I don't have any co-pays. It's not but a 100 mile round trip to the clinic I'm using. Since I'm retired, that's no big problem. Gives me the opportunity to take a short road trip every three months. :USA-flag:

171,000 (Military) Retirees Likely To Lose Tricare Prime (Healthcare Insurance Coverage Plan)

Oh, I will still have insurance, but my cost share is gonna go up.

GRRRRR....

NC

Update: It's official. Tricare Prime (for those vets who live further than 40 miles from a base) will be ending, and changed over to Tricare Standard.

The overall cost will be MUCH more than Prime. I just registered with the new VA clinic on Cape Coral. Am hoping that between the two plans: Tricare Standard and the VA system, I'll be able to make out better.

Little by little, veteran's benefits are being reduced or eliminated. It is a sad state of affairs. Navy Chief

I know folks don't want to think about the additional expense, but there are a lot of supplemental insurance plans out there (USAA, NCOA, MOAA, etc). Once the system changes, if you don't have a supplemental, one (even moderate) medical problem can be economically devastating.

I agree with you about the need for supplemental insurance. The thing is, there are a lot of veterans who cannot afford them, and this change will be financially devastating. I am fortunate in that it will not affect me too much; but that is not the case for many others. NC
