Sad news...Neil Armstrong has died

God bless Neil Armstrong.
A legend from my 17th year has passed and I feel old.

Just saw this on the BBC.

Very sad indeed. The original Ice Man, a lifelong hero, and a very reluctant one at that.

RIP and Godspeed.

one small step backwards for man, one giant leap into a better place for Neil Armstrong...

i feel his presence will be deeply missed, unfortunately i feel the world is a darker place for his loss... he embodied everything man should strive for, courage through adversity, not trying to be a hero, and just getting on with things, not letting anything stand in his way... farewell Neil, your presence will be missed, and god speed!

Lenop,

He was one of my childhood heroes as well. I will be just as sad when John Glenn and James Lovell pass. Godspeed to a truly classic American icon. :salute:

Not only a true American hero but a hero of humanity who took that giant leap.

I hope he receives a state funeral with full honors, but I fear in this day and age that may not happen. If any American deserves one it is him, and so did Alan Shepard.:USA-flag:

I watched that NASA program closely as a student in the 60s and Neil Armstrong was always a part of it. God's speed to not only an astronaut, but a navy fighter pilot in Korea and an aviation professor as well.

For a child of the 60's like me, news that Neil Armstrong has died comes as a real shock and I feel genuinely sad...

"one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind'

One of the calmest, most analytical and then most reclusive of all the Nasa Astronauts. He always thought he was just doing a job, well if that job included being a hero to a 9 year old british boy, then it's a job you did bloody well. Rest in peace Commander Armstrong.

Truly a gentleman of reserve character and quality. Not too many like him pass our way anymore......:salute:

Navtech,....heh-heh,...no need to take deep cover. But to make the point: Some time ago one of the original astronauts (Buzz Aldrin?,...I forget which one) in an interview stated something like this,......" It was the time of the cold war with Russia (1969). We had spies in Russia,...they had spies here in the US. If,...by any reason or proof,...the Russians could have proved that it was a faked moon landing,...they would have. Big time." Well,....nothing was ever said by the Russians. Not a squeak. Which proves all along that the moon landing was truly legit. Plus the other ones.

Now remove yourself from that 1950's bomb shelter!
:icon_lol:

God Speed Neil Armstrong.

For me the best argument that the landings were real is the fact that they did it several times. If they couldn't really do it, they'd have faked one and said "see, there ya go. We beat the ruskies, hooray for us!" then quit while they were ahead. The more people they involved the better chance of a leak or goof-up.
