Just when you think you have everything running some what better...

You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.

    1. November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
    2. November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
    3. November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
    4. November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.

If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.

To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

    Thank you for your support.

Hello L'iguane,
thank you very much for this fantastic repaint.
All I can say to that is: as real as it gets.
It never ceases to impress me how you manage to make the repaint look just like an original.
Very much appreciated.

It's like plastic modelling in a virtual way ;)
Plastic modellers are a source of inspiration for me, as well as many painters here at SOH.
I could mention Jason Sparkes and UKMIL teams, Zsolt, Lucian Lie, TuFun, Duckie, Jafo and our own Huub Vink as references. Having a close look at their numerous repaints taught me a lot and most of my techniques have something to do with them.

The picture of the Deutsches Museum, Flugwerft Schleissheim F-86 is the one I used as reference.
I'm glad you enjoy it !

Cheers

Yes indeed! I built plastic models for decades. I have a whole room with stacks of shelves on three walls full of 1/72 models. I discovered Flight Sim and virtual models just as I was about run out of shelf space. I was always big on paint jobs and would build a whole line of a plane like the Boeing F4B or Curtiss SOC and paint them in the colors and markings of every unit that flew the type (at least that was the goal, not always fully realized.)

Once into FS I gravitated to painting skins right away and I was happy to find that I could paint all the skins I wanted onto just one model - and I didn't even have to build the model myself. I'm still at it, even though the current project has gone on for years and still isn't finished. Between painting skins and occasional fiddling with scenery (that other folks have made) I never actually fly the planes I work on (or any others.)

No more worries about display space, the cost of kits, paints and decals, no trouble making decals or converting kits, no sharp edged tools or toxic fumes, no damage from marauding cats that can't be fixed with the undo button or the Ctrl+Z keys.

I had acquired a basement full of kits that I would never have time to build or room to display, and after concluding that selling them would be more work than the sales would pay acceptable recompense, I donated them to the nearby air museum for sale in their gift shop.
