Sikorski S-55 Sound Pack uploaded

OBIO

Retired SOH Admin
I just uploaded a sound pack for the freeware ALpha Sim Sikorski S-55. Based on the stock Robinson sound pack from FS9, with internal and external motor sounds from the T-6 Harvard pack by Doug (Fnerg) Smith and Jay (Farmboy) McDaniels. While a vast improvement over aliasing the S-55 to the Robinson, this sound pack most likely isn't close to the real deal...but at least you get to hear the Pratt & Whittney R-1340 fire up and rumble along as you fly through the sky in the bulbous beauty that is the S-55.

The sound pack will be under FS2004/Sounds once it makes it into the download library.

Thanks OBIO. That's great, mate.:jump:
Looking forward to add the great Wasp sound to the Sikorsky.

Cheers,
Maarten

Thanks OBIO :applause:

Just got them off the site here and checked them out ..... much better :jump:

Don't worry about the email I sent you.

Thanks again,

Pete.

Thanks Obio.

I was flying the S-55 (UH-19) last night and thought that I'd better alias the sounds to something more authentic. I've never heard an S-55, but I've been around it's larger brother, the UH-34 back when it was still in service and I loved to listen to it as it beat the air into submission.

Thanks Obio.

The biggest disappointment I have with this sound pack is the wimpiness of the rotor sounds. I spent some time with the files in Audacity trying to get them to have that WOMP WOMP WOMP sound that a helo of this size should have...and just could not come up with anything that sounded right to my ears....though I did come up with some really cool sounds for UFOs!

I am working on a sound pack for the CH-34 and will try again to get the WOMP WOMP WOMP sound that the rotors really need. I may have to dig around for another wav editor, one that allows more flexibility in remixing and overlaying sound files. I had one that had all the bells and whistles, but lost it about 6 computer crashes ago.

Just uploaded a set of replacement rotor sounds....big, beefy, choppy, ear drum bustin!

oakfloor,

I used WinRar to zip the package up, and for some reason when unzipped there will be a folder within a folder. Make sure that you open the folders until you find the actual sound files, then copy those and paste them into your S-55s main sound folder.

If that doesn't fix things, give me a holler either here in this thread or via PM and I will help you get things figured out.

The Simshed Wessex (Westland's adaptation of the S-58) came with a pretty good sound pack, although without start-up/ shut-down sounds, although that may be my mistake in installing.
Do a search at Avsim FS2004-Helicopters, and you'll get two results,RAF and Navy models.
cheers ian
