Thanks for the quick review on whether it's worth seeing or not. I'm a huge Bond fan and I've liked all the characters over the years. While Timothy Dalton is not mentioned too often, I liked his two films portraying 007. It's interesting how the bad guys have changed over the years depending on the world situation. It took me a while to get used to Roger Moore, but in the end I liked him too.
If any of you are Roger Moore fans, look for the movie Ffolkes. It's like a bond thriller, but with different names.
I did see
Ffolkes. It was one of my aunt's favorite movies. She loved films like this, or say,
Where Eagles Dare or
Murphy's War.
Timothy Dalton I felt bad for for several reasons. At the time he got the role, the Bond people really wanted was Pierce Brosnan, who couldn't get out of his tv commitment, so Dalton began as sort of a second choice. IMO, apart from
A View to a Kill, he got the weakest scripts, with the least interesting (to me) Bond girls. Don't get me wrong, they were all beautiful women, just no comparison to Ursula Andress coming out of the Caribbean in that bikini like The Birth of Aphrodite. I don't know what movie it was, maybe
Kill Bill vol.2, but when the advance trailer for
Die Another Day came on and Halle Berry came out of the ocean, the men in the audience applauded.
Die Another Day I thought died in the second half, and the villian's superweapon was stolen from
Diamonds Are Forever, but I thought the premise of Bond being captured and possibly turned was interesting. I liked all the Bonds for the most part. I bought
On Her Majesty's Secret Service the other day at Big Lots for I think 3 USD, and I'm even having second thoughts about George Lazenby. I'd seen the film last year on TCM, and on the lead-in they said it actually made money, but not as much money as the studio expected. The main criticism against the film, according to the studio, was the audience wanted Sean Connery, who was really worried about being typecast. They ended up paying Connery an exhorbitant amount (I forget the exact figure) to return for
Diamonds Are Forever, and still had to pay off George Lazenby's contract. I don't think he was bad in the part, it's just that most people see Bond as Sean Connery. I mean ,really, Sean Connery and Diana Rigg. How COMPLETELY, ULTIMATELY, COOL would that have been? I'm old school though. To me, Holmes and Watson still look exactly like Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, even though I
luv Lucy Liu. I want Lucy to be
my "companion". I want to do yoga and relaxing breathing excercises with Lucy Liu. I want to
deduce things with Lucy.
