So, who likes Need for Speed: Shift?

So, I know Panther was into the GP Legends racing, so I figured I'd drop this and see if anyone is playing or has played Need for Speed: Shift?

Frankly, I find this to be one of the most fun and visceral racers I've ever played. Love it!

The Lotus Elise 111R Werks conversion is an incredibly FUN little car to throw around the track. It's like a freaking rocket ship!

Here's another guy taking a car similar to it around the Nurburgring.

And this is at Spa.

And here's a site doing a video review of the game - Game Trailers, a personal fav of mine.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/review-need-for/55937

The website also has an in-browser High-Def version of the review. Looks great. :D

Too much of an 'Arcade Game' for most of us hard cases.

GTR2, GTL, rFactor, RBR and (at present) DiRT2 seem to rule.
Maybe NFSS would suit Louise Hamilton given his lack of 'Road sense'............:173go1:

I'm a fan of Shift but not of most of the previous releases apart from the original & the versions between and including Hot Pusuit - Hot Pursuit 2.

It's a shame that the Ferrari DLC is only avaliable on the 360. Really getting irritated with all the 360 exclusive releases.

I do also enjoy Ferrari & Supercar Challenge BUT really looking forward to GT5 & F1 2010

Thanks for the tip, CS ! :ernae:

I came in here looking for maybe something new to add to my racegame collection ( GPL, GTL, GTR2, GTR Evo, netKarPro, Race07, rFactor ) and found it a great addition. The graphics are amazing and it runs pretty smoothly on my mid range puter too. Bought the download (5 Gigs) and won my first race all within half an hour. :)

Got a question : do you know if it's possible to kill the music during replay ? ...

Bummer that replays cannot be saved... :banghead:

Otherwise i'm going to enjoy getting that 1.2 million Bugatti Veyron ! :mixedsmi:

Cheers,
Jan

I will admit to owning it as well, not really hard core but like DiRT2 it's very entertaining.

The answer to the annoying introductiom movies and that crappy 'music' plus several other tweaks are included in these notes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run with low shadows without the game crashing
- set shadows to low
- quit and restart the game
- quit the game again without changing anything
- remove graphicsconfig.xml from the \Documents\NFS Shift\ folder
- run game and set graphics settings including low shadows
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Logitech and Fanatec steering wheels
- If you find the wheel pulling in the wrong direction or excessive left-right swaying when driving straight, modify the wheel settings .xml file in the \Need for Speed SHIFT\ControllerDefaults\PC\ folder, change InputMax value from 11500 to -11500. Editing the .xml file can be done with notepad.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Get better FFB (highly subjective!)
- download custom profile and replace vehicleset_pc_custom_wheel.xml in \Need for Speed SHIFT\ControllerDefaults\PC\ with the downloaded profile. Choose preset 27 in controller menu and re-calibrate axes and/or buttons if necessary.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Map look left/right to steering wheel buttons
- use Logitech Profiler or JoyToKey to map numpad 4 and 6 to wheel buttons
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cure over-sensitive brake pedal response
- set brake pedal sensitivity to a low value or even 0%
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cure default oversteering behaviour (backside stepping out at the slightest turn of the wheel)
- set slider towards Oversteer in quick tuning menu (names have been switched, bug until solved by patch)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Less aggressive AI
- replace physicsbootflow.bff file in the \Need for Speed Shift\Pakfiles\ folder by one of the files attached in the physicsbootflow.zip archive
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remove in-game movies
- Go into the Movies folder and rename the file extensions, e.g. from .bik to .bak, or just delete them.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Get rid of the replay music
Simply rename or remove the file nfs_racemusic.fsb in the folder Audio/Music. You can also disable the Menu Ambience in the Sound Options, but then you lose the menu music as well.

I gave up on the franchise after NFS:MW- they took my Ford GT and gave me a POS BMW M3 for the final chase, but I have NFS:pS installed and a few victories under my belt. Been running TDU for the last couple years as well as R07, but may pick up a copy of NFS:world when it comes out.

Finally picked it up a couple of days ago for, as the Dutch saying goes, 'an apple and an egg'; it's definitely not a race sim, but it is the best NfS game in a long time!
The basics are still the same as the last umpteen parts though; buy a car, tune it and go race against 'AI' drivers that are not worthy of the 'I' !

As a real race fanatic I find the race format (No qualifying or practice, start at the back for a usually short race) quite annoying but I noticed this game has some longer races too in Tier 3.

The handling of the cars takes some getting used too but it's a lot better than the demo was. Handling also improves once you get better cars and upgrades. Am driving a works converted Nissan GT-R at the moment. :d Graphics are excellent!

Anyone else having problems winning the 'car battles'? Seems the AI is a lot faster in these events! Oh well at least I can win enough stars in the other events to make progress in the game.

And another annoyance: How can I take screenshots without having to upload them to the EA website first..? I tried Fsscreen but it doesn't work.

I'll give that a try, Wombat; Fsscreen just gives me black screens.

Still somewhat frustrated that I can't play at a realism/difficulty level I want to because of the stupid AI! Getting bumped into the gravel when overtaking happens all too often and with a race of only 2 or 3 laps it's impossible to win.

Got a nice garage though at the moment: Lamborghini Gallardo with all mods, a works converted BMW M3 for the drift events and I just bought the Pagani Zonda R. I'm ready for Tier 4! :d

Yep, FRAPS works for me too! :)

My Pagani Zonda R:

And my tricked out Gallardo all shiny, just before I was knocked into the barrier at 160+ mph on the long straight at Spa just after the Eau Rouge..

Glad you guys are enjoying it. :)

I'm a huge fan of the Elise 111R Works conversion - tops out way too fast, but the damn thing is just like a go-kart! I love it! :)

That Nissan GT-R is a really great car too - that thing just grips and grips!

It's really fun to take it around the Nurburgring.

After a few hours I still have a love/hate affair with this game; the graphics are great, the physics are so-so and the AI cars are still trying to kill me! No wonder you get a badge for a clean overtake, because it is F:censored:ing impossible without getting at least a few scratches!

I have this on PC and my brother has it on the PS3.

The PC version is much better. :D Looks better, smoother, etc.

Though I only use a 360 controller for it, I'd love to try a real wheel and seat set-up.
