Takeoff speed slower than AI

Question-- Does the a/c air file need to be adjusted or is it in the mission itself. Sometimes the AI crash into the player a/c before takeoff is completed

Hello Highpockets:

It's probably the mission... try changing the player flight formation and see what happens. let me ask this: Are the offending ai aircraft in your flight or a trailing flight, waiting to take off behind yours?

Cheers

Go into the aircraft cfg file and see if there are these two sections. If they aren't there cut and paste these into the cfg file:

[piston_engine]
power_scalar=1.0

[propeller]
thrust_scalar=1.0

Change one of the scalars to = 1.1

I usually use the the propeller as the most effective, but the engine can work too. It's just that the prop thrust takes effect quicker and you get moving faster. If the AI still overrun you increase the scalar to =1.2.

The cfg effects the player aircraft but not the AI so you can get ahead of them on takeoff. Just be aware that you will now be faster than your flight, so you may need to throttle down some in flight so they can stick with you.

Thanks Captain Kurt. I suspected the air cfg. Was not sure what to adjust. All the missions flown with this a/c experienced the same issue. Many close encounters on takeoff. I can throttle back if need be. I'll get into it later today.

I didn't mean tweaking the the A.I. You guys are always tinkering with the air files for different reasons. Just curious if there was a manual for that or just learned by experience.

The "Flight Dynamics Workbook" from the Mudpond website is helpful but not easy to use. It's an Excel workbook. The AirWrench tool is helpful too but doesn't always produce a good airfile. Beyond that, it's 90% experimentation and 10% of what has been learned in the past.
