Talons GSL Ports

In free fight, cannot get any of the ships, AA, or vehicle anchorages to show up. Plus can't find two of the Burma ports in the in-game start location list. I'm pretty sure I have installed everything correctly as per instructions including the GSL files. I did not install any of the scenery for Port Moresby since I have most of it plus I just wanted the ports in the Indo-Pacific. The instructions say the Layouts have the above items and to get these items you have to load the Layouts?. Can I assume that if you don't use the layouts, the items won't appear in free flight? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Only what is in the GSL will show in free flight.AA is not in GSL because the guns won't fire. The layout files are made for the creation of missions.

Maybe you should get some of Uncle Tgt scenery it makes the whole CFS2 experience better. He is working on Burma at this time.
He has done the Solomons,Rabual,Truk,Marianas and much more of the Pacific.Mission and campaigns have been done in some of these areas.

Maybe you should slow down and learn more about CFS2 and how things work, are done, that can be done and can't be done.

I figured as much about the GSLs. I found out that most GSLs provided with add-on scenery don't have ships along with certain other items not included with the provided GSL and that the user
would have to add items, whatever they are, if not included to the existing GSL. Something I don't have the skill yet to do. Some of the provided GSLs have the same items as the the layouts that are provided , but not many. As for Layouts, it seems that you have to use the Mission Builder to create, save, load and use Layouts. Something also I have no skill in doing. I just have to use what's provided with add-on scenery and follow the instructions. I do have a number of UT sceneries in the some of my installs. Just thought I would mention what I concluded above. In spite of what you might think, I do know a lot about CFS2 and what can and can't be done and how things work though not everything. Thanks for the info.

Do you know planes and ships need different effects depending on who made them and the program they used? How about fixing the gun sight if it's set to high or to low? What about fine tuning a plane to it's actual specs?Do you know if you use the mission builder to edit missions you can ruin the mission because the hand editing will disappear?Mission builders not only build missions in the MB but also hand edit them to tweak to get how they want them.

I also have flown-P-38,P-40E,P-47D,P-51D,F4u-D and Spitfire Mk IX.I own a P-40E,F4u-d and the Spitfire. Some of the planes in CFS2 are very close to the real ones/It's not a knock on the creators, they just never flew them. There are some pilots in here that make planes and do great job because they know how they fly.

Thanks for the advice. I think everyone who builds and creates objects, planes, ships, scenery in CFS2 for the rest of us are a extremely talented bunch of people, including you and we should be grateful for them making the sim as good as it is. The only thing I really want to change in any of the add-on and stock missions is starting from the air and maybe an occasional ship or plane. Happy flying.

I understand about the GSL. What I noticed is that a number of items in the layouts are in the provided GSL and do show up in free flight while other objects don't show up because they're not in the provided GSL ,but in the layouts. I also noticed that in some other scenery packages most
everything in the layouts provided is also in the appropriate GSL that is provided and they show up in free flight. Too bad because I would have liked to see the Kure ships in the layout for them included in the GSL, but it is what it is. Just an observation.

Ships aren't usually in GSL files for a reason, they have AA guns and the guns won't fire in GSL,You can always make your own file to the way you want. It's not that tough to do.

I'm nervous about try to create a new GSL file. I've downloaded GSL tools but I'll have to study them before I dive in. we'll see. Also, can you create a mission using an existing layout and a plane and a location like a training mission in the MB? I know it sounds like a dumb question but I figured I would ask.

Thought I had some of MW's GSL Tools, but could not find them. I guess you have to email him and hope you get them. I'll just have to do without.

You can make GSL scenery in the mission builder also,it's time consuming but can be done.Lindsay Watts did a tutorial on how to do it years ago. It's good for small areas.

Mission Builder Global Scenery Layer Editor Keyboard Commands

Activate GSL edit mode = Ctrl + Alt + Shift + G

Save GSL = Ctrl + Alt + S

Load a layout file = Ctrl + L

Save layout file. = Ctrl + E

By default once you save the GSL, it’s automatically added to the default CFS2.gsl file.

Once added to the gsl, the scenery can only be removed by removing the .gob file.

You can save a master copy of your work in .mis or .lay format.

Thank you so much!

I suggest you get the LW GSL tutorial I mentioned.I has a blank GSL file yo work with.Another thing,if you just put in the ships you want you may lose the other objects that are already there because that area may be rewritten.

Good Point. I should have that tutorial somewhere. I remember downloading it. I'm likely going to hold off with creating a separate GSL or adding to one for now until I learn more. Thanks.
