I find it odd that folks who were already flying Spitfires could be so enamored of the P-51. :d

IIRC, the early 'stangs were used in a similar role to Tiffies, low level dicing and ground attack. Like the Tiffie they out-performed the spits at these lower levels. Can be said the same for many of the alison engined fighters, P39 and P40 were similarly impressive at these lower alts.

It took stealing the Spitfire engines to enable the stang to compete higher up :d

I do like the early Mustangs, probably moreso than the later Merlin engined ones. My SU stangs still have a firm spot in my GW3 hanger.
