vstudios PT Stearman WIP (Payware)

Does anyone know how many Stearmans have had floats fitted? The thing in the photo above is just set-dressing, and not a real aircraft. I'm really curious, because I'm only familiar with one highly modified example in the 1970's, having floats fitted (I believe it was operated by a sprayer company). I'm not aware of any N2S's (the Navy Stearmans) ever being manufactured with them (the Navy used the N3N for that job - a completely different aircraft).

See this thread John, http://www.stearman.net/forum/textthread.cfm?catid=3&threadid=2186

Stearman Model 76 is a variant of Model 75 (which served as a primary trainer and was based on the earlier Stearman Model 6). Model 76 was designed as a fighter version, featuring more powerful engines (Pratt & Whitney Wasp Jr / Wright R670-E2/ R975-E3 engine, Hamilton Standard2 bladed prop) and aerodynamic improvements like engine cowlings etc. The maiden flight took place in 1936. Several versions were equipped with MGs, bomb racks or aerial cameras and some airplanes were converted to seaplanes, equipped with Edo floats. A limited number of these versions were built for the export market (Argentine, Brazil, Cuba, Philippines, Venezuela).

How goes the float model? any chance of getting it with bigger "tundra" tires? i always thought it would be cool to see a stearman with bushwheels

Tom

No tundra tyres I'm afraid :kilroy:, the floater will be ready for final beta Friday evening.:salute:

However, the floater and AG will be released as an additional full product release.

you know, the idea of an ag version makes me think of that book "border pilot". that was a cool story.
if folks made scenery for something like that, crop dusting on fsx would prolly be alotta fun, i bet
:cowboy: hey, who is this guy? i found him in the smileys

I agree. Scenery populated with powerlines, barns and such, would be welcome addition. And maybe even 3d crops? And Gary Grant running at the field, would be fun to chase him:icon_lol::

Alright, worth a try, any teaser pictures of the floats and or ag?

Tom

Just one ;)
