Well It finally Happened... MSFS 1.39.9.0 Crashing

Browncoat

SOH-CM-2023
After years of reading posts about MSFS not working, or updates going sideways, it finally happened to me.

Every time today I have tried to launch MSFS20, it crashes. I've removed all of my add-ons, not dice. I've hand modified the User OPT config file to switch from DX11 to DX12, no dice. I'm running an RTX5070TI with Nvidia 591.44 drives. Any ideas what I can do? I appreciate the help.

I’m not running 2020 anymore, but when I had something similar happen to me a number of versions back, I ended up just having to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall from scratch.

If your data files are in a custom location instead of the default, you can just point the installer back to that when you reinstall and save re-downloading most of the files. That makes the reinstall just the small base executable.

Thanks Danny. Uninstall and reinstall was on my list. It has been 5-6 years since I installed the game.

Once thing I am going to try is to hand edit the user config file to reflect the driver version that I am running. I think that the config file had 531.something or other. My hypothesis is that perhaps the game is crashing because the game is seeing a different GPU driver version.

I will report if that theory pans out.

Update:
Yeah... updating the GPU driver entry, and changing the adapter from 3070 Ti to 5070 Ti didn't work either. I guess the old CFS2 hacks are not reliable for these new fangled sims...

Odd thing is that I did get MSFS20 to start prior to this latest city update and after I had installed the 5070 ti. I wonder why the user config didn't update them...

Well, next up is uninstall and reinstall....

Update:
Well uninstall and reinstall didn’t work. On to rolling back drivers…

Update:
And rolling back the drivers to 577.0 worked! I recall seeing on the forums this the issue started with the 580.0 drivers.

My MSFS also crashes sporadically with the 581 drivers, but only when I exit Dev mode. I just saw the 590 drivers have been released, will try that.
