Windows 7 vs. Vista CPU & Memory Performance Comparison

The reviews of the release candidates, especially the last rc, of Windows 7 seemed to show 7 being superior to Vista, but the reviews of the final version of 7 show it to have very little improvement over Vista except for improved gaming and XP still beats both Vista and 7 for games. What happened? Were the reviews of the rc versions stilted or did M$ make a few changes to make Vista and 7 equal?

I have found out using Window7/64 that it is way more stable than Vista 64 and is very user friendly too.

I now have 64 bit Vista on a upper mid range laptop and it runs good with a few minor quirks. However this laptop with the 64 bit has locked up a half dozen times to the point I have had to hold the power button to turn it off and reboot.

It was impossible to reboot in the typical manner, that's how hard it locked up.I have the laptop on in the truck as I drive down the road and it has Toshibas HDD protection feature active so I think it might be the protection stopping the HD as it detects some vibration,it acts like a HD issue.

On the plus side I get a free copy of Windows 7 in October.I have run 32 bit Vista for 18+ months on 2 different laptops and it has been a very good performer with a few minor annoyances.

I am looking forward to Windows 7 because I know a bunch of people running it and they also say it is stable and user friendly....we shall see.

Odd you guys are having problems with Vista 64. 32 bit was awful for me, but 64 bit has only ever bluescreened for me once- and it was my fault.

I don't think I'll be getting w7 64 anytime soon. 300 dollars could get me the "cheap" walkaround lens I've been wanting for my camera... :mixedsmi:

It doesn't blue screen on me,it just stops....which is why I think it's a hardware issue related to the HDD protection.

To my way of thinking M$ has a great opportunity to fix the bloatware problems with Vista and earlier OS's. And also add some long needed tools like a good registry cleaner. But will they ???? If they don't I can't see much advantage over XP/Vista.
