Firstever Repaint 307th BG

HI all!

For all who have been following the saga of Pitoe And Wama, I have just finished my first ever repaint of a John Young AI B-24.

Once it is refined I will include it in my package, when the scenery is done.

This is just a generic 307th BG Long Rangers aircraft. No nose art and imaginative tail #. Info and pictures are hard to come by. The only thing I know for sure are the Long Ranger Logo and the facts that the different squadrons had the tip of the tail fins painted a different color (but no idea what those colors were) and that the fuselages had no code letters.

This is the first time I have worked with a paint kit that included layers and alpha channel. Is it perfect? Not at all but I learned so much in two days!:wiggle: The insignia spot on the alpha channel is a little out of place and I need to do away with weathering layer, but otherwise I am pleased.

Thanks,

Joe

Looking good. If I can make a suggestion, I would turn down the opacity on the weathering layer a bit more. It's set
to 65% in the paintkit but that is for a painted a/c. On a natural metal surface the dirt wouldn't be so pronounced.
If you would like some help in painting these birds up I could help, just let me know.

Joe

P.S. You do have this site bookmarked? http://307bg.net/ Although all the wartime pics are B/W there are a few
with noseart.

Butcherbird,

Thanks for the comment. It sounds as though you have John Young's AI B-24. I had no idea that you can adjust the opacity of a layer. I will do that.

Yes I have the 307th site bookmarked and have for a long time. I have been perusing the pictures. They have been informative and I even got a lead on the color of the squadron markings on the tail: There were color photos taken (at a reunion I am guessing) of models that had the markings. Red, white, green. I think from the tonal quality in some B/W photos that show the tai fins, the tonal quality of the background of the LR Logo (blue) is the same as the stripe at the top of the tail fin, So I am assuming that the fourth stripe color is blue.

Your offer of help with the aircraft is kind and much appreciated, I may take you up on your offer, but at this point I would like to see what I am able to do.

Thanks again,
Joe

Careful there, Joe. You may be about to go down the the rabbit hole! :biggrin-new: You,ve taken the biggest step to becoming a repainter - you did one! :very_drunk:

Looking forward to seeing more. :encouragement:

Thanks Duckie. It is scary going down the rabbit hole. Right now I am a "repainter" because of the project I am working on. Lots of work ahead. I am confident with advice and encouragement from those here that are far more accomplished than I that I will do OK.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Joe
