Special Server Maintenance
Just when you think you have everything running some what better...
You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.
- November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
- November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
- November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
- November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.
If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.
To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.
Thank you for your support.

A good choice, Michael. The red helicopter ressembles more or less to the one shown in the album "The Calculus Affair". BTW, some several years ago I did these situations published in the same album. They depict the flight of Tintin and Captain Hadock from Melsbroek to Geneva.
Georges Remy draw this album with some meticulous details, especially what concerns the scenes in and around Geneva. He then was helped by a good friend there, who furnished him a lot of informationsaqnd pictures.

I got mine free with PC Pilot, issues 53 & 64. There was another Mig-21 by Pierre Marchadier on the disc that came with issue 51 but I don't think I tried that - I'll have to look it out

Paint kits
There are many paint kits around, in all possible levels of quality. It takes a lot of time and effort to make a good paint kit. Which I think is not always enough appreciated.
Among the very best are those by Martin "ICDP" Catney done for the A2A/Shockwave models. and those done by John "Bomber_12th" Terrell. John did many extra ordinary paint kits and has a special talent to make metal look like metal. He is a master in creating all variations of finishes form highly polished to, anodised, to war-worn, to even aluminium dope painted.
Although the ones for his Warbirdsim models and the one for Warwick "Wozza" Carter's Texan are absolutely stunning, my personal favourite is the final paint kit John did for the A2A/Shockwave/WWii fighters P-51D Mustang. It does not only include the layered files to create the main textures, but also contains all files for the alphas!
I don't know whether everybody is aware, but nearly all repaints (and there are a awful lot!) for theA2A/Shockwave/WWii-fighters P-51D Mustang, are created based on this paint kit. This includes the over 1,000 repaints done for this model by JanKees Blom.....
.
Cheers,
Huub

Every screen shot tells a story.
The Alphasim B-52H in one of my favorite repaint textures.
In order to add the "sea eagle" tail art for the 92nd BW at Fairchild AFB, I wound up buying an old Revel 1/144th scale model kit and scanning the decal sheet, then spending a couple of days to add the image to the tail textures including adding the slant to the "FAIRCHILD" lettering on both sides. Note the crew hatch and bomb bay doors are open and the horiz. stabs are in the "parked" position.
This plane was included with several others in the B-52H texture set(s) I uploaded at Nel's old site.

SRAM weapons FX test in FS2004 using the Alphasim FB-111.
Note the regular bomb FX in the foreground and the poor *** at 12,500 ft. getting baked while the 'Vark makes tracks out of town.
This test failed, which is why you see the conventional bombs.
The idea was to connect the big blast to a standard rocket effect but the big blast acted like a free-fall bomb while the smaller blasts followed the rocket trajectory.
I still play around with this effect from time-to-time when I feel inspired but its still kicking my rear.
