PMDG DC-6 and search

Rest me nothing else than open a new thread about the PMDG DC-6 because it simply cannot be searched for.... When i try to search for it (PMDG DC-6) i get this : The following words were not included in your search because they are too short, too long, or too common: DC, 6

I stumbled over this issue quite a few times before. Is there really no way to fix it ? ( DC-6 is apparently seen as 'DC, 6' .... ) And, as far as search is concerned, an aircraft designator like DC-6, DC-8, C-47, B-17, F-100 etc. being too short or too common in a forum about aircraft is not very handy... I DO understand it is probabely the search engine that is used that conducts this kind of stuff and that SOH (in this case) cannot take action to fix this, well, slightly irritating, problem.

Anyway, i just wanted to know how is the PMDG DC-6 holding out in MSFS2024 ? Is it a total disaster or is it reasonably flyable with mostly working gauges ?

Thanks very much for any enlightenment ! :encouragement:

I have the latest PMDG Ops Center3.0. It automatically detects that I have MSFS2024. When I click on Products there are none showing. I've been checking for the DC-6 periodically, but so far, no go.

I am pretty sure some folks have done a copy over from their MSFS2020 with some aircraft issues. Personally, I don't want anything this new version of MSFS, that won't install directly into it. So, I'm patiently waiting for the updated DC-6 which IMO was probably the best large prop aircraft we had for that sim.

I just read over on the PMDG Forum in an official DC-6 and recent post it says "Soon". I'm really happy to see that.

Put your search into brackets like "PMDG DC-6"

Thank you, Forest ! Hopefully they won't forget about their 'once' masterpiece. It still looks gorgeous in MSFS2020 it's just that i am too spoiled by 2024 ( i have always been a sucker for eyecandy), i can't get my kicks on 2020 anymore ( load up 2020 takes ages compared to 2024 for one thing...). Just for the heck of it i installed my 2020 copy in 2024. Sadly, yes, just about nothing works...

Ok, then, back to the waiting room, fingers crossed !

Thanks again ! :encouragement:

Yes, tried that too, same thing, still returns DC, 6...

Thanks Mathias, i'd hoped for something more positive but for the time being possibly good things come for those who wait... (as far as i'm concerned same goes for the B-17..;-)

Just type DC6 instead of DC-6:
Same result, Tiger : too short, too long, too common.

Mind you, i am talking about searching for DC-6 here at SOH.... A google search turns up lots of DC-6 stuff. It's the search engine here in the forums that doesn't like DC-6, DC6, or anything shorter than 6 or 7 letters and/or digits . "F-100" returns 'too short etc' "F-100A" returns F-107A.... ;-) Atleast that's something but it can differ as well, sometimes 'no results' or again 'too short'. I certainly see this happening at other aviation related fora as well. If you put DC-6 in the search box of 'airliners.net' you get 118 pages of all kinds of DC-6's but that's not a forum of course... ;-)

I think for us flightsimmers it would be really helpfull if searching for f.i. "DC-6" here at SOH would indeed return everything related to DC-6. Atm it's just not possible to search for DC-3, DC-6, DC-8, C-47, P-47, B-47, F-100, F-104 etc and so on. A small but significant sprocket in the gears of the SOH search engine that needs a bit of grease. ;-)

I assume that this issue is a limitation of the forum software and not something one of our IT wizs could operate on.
That's what i'm thinking too, John. The problem not being able to use search here at SOH when it comes to the, indeed very common, aircraft designators of one or two letters and a few digits, something we live by more then anything else, don't we, has always been there. With the truly awesome quality of MSFS2020 and 2024 (soon...;-) one could argue that maybe it's time for SOH to finally try and fix this 'small' but very significant hiccup in the search engine.

Most probabely true that 'common' search engines usually can't do much with a combination of just 4 or 5 letters and digits, but in our specific hobby these '4 or 5 letters and digits' happen to be the 'basic code' of what it's all about. If we search for it and all that's returned is " Hey, what on earth are you talking about ?" i.e. "too short, too long, too common" the whole point of a search engine for a flightsimulation dedicated forum is kind of missed...

I would suspect this can be set in the forum backend.

I suppose that, if that would be possible, this particular omission in the search engine here would've been fixed years ago don't you think ?

I just searched for "DC-6" in the official MS Flightsimulator forum and it worked fine, even without the quotation marks... But i'd rather search for DC-6 *here* to find replies by flightsimmers i *know* and trust.

Fingers crossed for your suggestion to turn out to be true, Mathias ! ;-)
