Attention all DC-3 fans !

Another old friend and a favorite of many stopped in at Anacortes today while out on a test hop.

The Navy agreed to help do some testing too.

Jan et al-

This thread has been something I have logged in to and read almost every day since it began. I believe I am far from alone in saying I am grateful for the entire team's work, and await release with patient enthusiasm. Please know your efforts are greatly appreciated, and will be for years to come. I look forward to logging in and reading your next thread ;).

So, the pilot does not turn "on" or "off" the hydraulic system. The pumps work (or should work) whenever the engines are running. One pump provides pressure for the main hydraulic system, and the other for the autopilot.

You can learn more about this from the last page of an actual C-47 manual available here:

ftp://aoptero.org/eArchive/C47-Skytrain/C-47-Skytrain-Manual-web_Part1.pdf

Not sure if this applies to the C-47 as well but on the DC-3, there are emergency shutoff levers on the throttle quadrant so while not used during regular operations, it's very possbile to turn the hydraulic system off. And don't forget the interconnect manifold that enables feeding the main system from either engine.

The best feature about the hydraulic system, however, is the wobble pump and the fact that it powers the friggin' wipers.

I have been logging in and out Gawd knows how many times since Saturday.

Jan can you give us a clue when?

I am waiting for Nigels seaport, the HMS bounty launch, the superb avro aircraft from Nigel.

More importantly the C47.

Cheers Chris

I meant as a part of a checklist operation, as the original question posed.

Oops. Okay, you're right then. (Although I'd at least give those cutoff levers a quick look when starting...just in case.)

In my defense: With the monotonous "When, when, WHEN?" posts on the last few pages (speckled with nitpicking about windows), the thread does not really invite for careful reading at the moment (outside of announcements from the team).

Thanks for the info about the hydraulic pumps. The reason I asked is that on the current panel for the C-47 there are toggle switches for the left and right hydraulic pumps.

Bill

Bill, did you mean the switches marked AUX Pumps in the image below? If so, those are auxiliary fuel pumps, to be used if the main pumps fail. They do seem to work in the current version (at least operating them moves the fuel pressure needles).

Or do you mean on the current Basler cockpit used in the v2 version? If so, those switches won't be in the new version, as they weren't in the actual plane.

Oops, fixed. Thanks for the heads up.

One should never think users are stupid when they have problems with a UI*, but since I'm referring to myself, I feel pretty stupid when it comes to posting images here.

Either I end up with none, or two, or just an attachment. R T F M doesn't seem to help.

But, as I say, I'm often stupid about simple things. Or is it I'm simple about stupid things? (Sorry, I digress, but we have to have something to think about while we eagerly wait.)

And on that topic, it is a well know phenomenon that something we have long awaited is seldom satisfying. My first sex (with a woman) comes to mind.

Don't worry, Kate's my third wife, she knows and understands that I'm a slow learner. (First one didn't like airplanes, second one didn’t like sex, if you want to know.)

We will find things that don’t work as expected -- yes, I mean with this awesome new aircraft. We will find things that work as expected but shouldn't. And we will find things that simply don’t work.

But I hope, as a simple lackey here with almost no real contribution, that everyone will remember this is a beta release, and I hope everyone will remember that what you will fly is a labor of love (or perhaps neuroticism) and you aren't owed anything because, don't forget, you didn't pay anything. In that spirit, everyone's observations and comments are heartily anticipated. Your contribution will make the final release that much better. (They have some surprises for you, too. Hee hee.) Don't forget, this is supposed to be the fun part of y/our lives!

*A brilliant young developer I worked with for several years opined, "When designing a UI you have to remember half the people in the world are dumber than the other half. Maybe more." (U.S. elections serve as proof of that.)

Griphos; thanks for the manuals. Gives me some useful reading to do while eagerly and (in-)patiently awaiting the release of my most favorite aircraft. No, I am not just saying this because of this thread. The DC-3/C-47 has given me goosebumps from the first time I saw one as a young kid.

Manfred, Jan and the rest of the team; what an amazing job you all have done with this already great rendition of an iconic airplane. I wonder, being so deep into the development, if you all really realize what an incredible product you are about to offer the flight simming community.

This "freeware" product put's a lot of payware products to shame.

If it stays freeware, than maybe the team can select a good cause for us to donate to. I will gladly do so.
