Special Server Maintenance
Just when you think you have everything running some what better...
You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.
- November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
- November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
- November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
- November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.
If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.
To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.
Thank you for your support.

I decided to grow myself an adventure.
Why not follow the Colorado river from source to sea? It was going to be just for me, at my leisure, visiting airports as I flew downstream, changing aircraft as I pleased, although they would be mostly, if not all, small general aviation craft.
I landed at Granby- Grand Co. (KGNB) to start the journey. The source of the Colorado is only some 30 miles north of Granby.
I did not initially intend to do any posting about the journey but somehow the fun and beauty of the landscape got the better of me so here are some shots of the first two days.
Leaving Granby-Grand Co. (KGNB) in the first aircraft a Bellanca Scout with Lycoming 180 hp. engine:
Take-off performance at 8200 ft. is much more sluggish than sea level (especially if you don’t manage the Mixture properly!) be prepared. Once airborne the plane was a delight to fly.
At Glenwood Springs (KGWS) we changed aircraft for another Bellanca; the Super Viking and could not resist a slight detour south to Aspen (KASE) some 40 miles south:
The Viking is an absolute delight to fly and fast in the cruise (170 Kts). The powerful engine copes well with the altitude (Aspen lies at 7820’). We left the rich and famous (and very expensive) behind, heading north back to the Colorado and following it south west to Grand Junction (KGJT). Here we were due to change aircraft, but with the excuse that a Bellanca Viking Turbo was different enough we used it, heading down stream through some of the most stunning scenery, to Moab Canyonlands airport (KCNY). The scenery having changed from the green of the eastern Rockies to the ochres of the dry lands and the river itself turning from glacial blue to a muddy brown:
And on approach to Canyonlands (KCNY):
Unloading and guess who forgot to retract the flaps?
There might be more to follow in the next few days.

A step down? Not so sure, not so expensive or exclusive as the Viking, yet charm rests in it’s simplicity. Today we go back to basics; open windows to alleviate the heat and low and slow to soak up the unique scenery. As we walk out to the craft we imagine ourselves as the Latter Day Saints of the Barn Storm. Rugged aviators, chiselled romantic features (somewhat reminiscent of a Huub avatar). And there she is:
08:39 and things are still cool enough to be comfortable. Junk is all loaded and all checks complete, time to say goodbye to Canyonlands and head south towards the big river.
Almost nine am and we are back above the river. The cockpit reinforces the atmosphere of aviators of old (although a few new instruments have crept in. The FAA don’t share the romantic view of our past heroes):
We chug along downstream and looking at the map salute the good Burghers of Utah in their bravery; cocking a snoot at their marketing department, as we pass “Dead Horse State Park”:
As we approach where the Green River flows into the Colorado the vegetation changes and the river widens and turns blue again, is this a subtle change in climate? No, deep down in our harts, we know the photo scenery has run out.
Passing the Green river confluence:
The next thirty miles or so are quite difficult, following the twisting gorges chiselled not just by the Colorado but many small tributaries.
Romanticism is all good and well but the Cub can be quite tiring on a long journey. We decide to call it a day and head for (UT03) Hite marked in FS9 simply as E/W 2000’ runway at 3840’.
It overlooks where the Dirty Devil Creek (another tourist attractive name, if ever I heard one.) flows into the Colorado. I wonder how many people got caught up it without a paddle?

@ScottishMike1 Is it the default j-3?
@Airbasil ,
Great shots Who (what software company) makes that Shorts plane, please?
@ScottishMike1 ,
Great shots. Is that David Maltby model base? The second screenshot looks amazing and far far better than normal FS2004 screenshot. Did you do something to improve the livery of that plane?
Regards,
Aharon

Lucb, yes it is the default Cub, with different textures and panels.
Aharon, I'm not sure which aircraft you are asking about, the first was a Bellanca Scout (freeware), the second and third Bellanca Super Viking and Viking Turbo by Lyon Hart Creations (payware) The Piper cub is the default Cub with different texture and panel.
