GAS Stearman Model 75 and Super Stearman IB75A MSFS 2020/2024

It will remain in the SOH library for as long as SOH is still running or until Paul (Spad54) decides he no longer wants us to host it (an unlikely event IMHO).

For those of you who installed the Super Stearman and have now noticed that your flashlight/headlamp in all your aircraft has turned red and will no longer light up the inside of the cockpit, there is an easy fix. Inside the gas-super-stearman-ib75a/Effects folder, you will find a file called "fx_flashlight.fx". Delete that file and make sure to run the layout.json through the generator. The flashlight will go back to normal on all planes (at least it did for me).

I'm glad that worked. I didn't want to have to uninstall this excellent rendition of a beautiful classic.

It worked perfectly, I could try tonight, thanks again for the tip about this red flashlight :)

Another question though: does your instrument lights look like this for you as well ? It illuminates only a tiny part of the gauge, so it's not really helping at night :/

Yeah. The regular Stearman has a nice, red flood, but the Super's lights are way too dim -- especially the attitude and altitude indicators (kind of important for night flying ). I'm investigating a fix . . .

Okay, here's what I've got: it's not ideal, but it took me from this:

to this:

I also changed out the navigation lights for a more subtle version:

So, here's what you need to do. Go into your SimObjects/Airplanes/gas-aircraft-stearman-ib75a folder and find the "systems" file. Edit the "Lights" section to look like this:
EffectsFileEdits.png

Then save it and run your layout.json again. Should work.

As a developer, I like to be warned of potential problems when using my planes. Finding out that people have problems and misrepresent the plane shocks me every time.

My email address is known and my MP are accessible on all the sites where I have posted: why nobody deigned to send me a MP to report this ?

- The effect you advise to remove is an effect that exists in FS20 (the Asobo files structure) with parameter values making light white. My effect has the same name and simply changes 2 parameters to have an orange light. It is possible that my effect replace the Asobo in FS20, I will study the solutions but Asobo included a nightlight in its code without leaving any possibility for the developers to modify it in intensity and value ...
- This effect does not exist in FS24 so I don't understand how it can alterate the others airplanes ....

To correct the general light effects on the VC, there is a way that I have been thinking about for a few months and that I will test on the DC-4.
It consists of changing some ModelBahavior to link the "emissive" effect of textures according to a potentiometer or the value of a variable. I had planned this ModelBehavior in the middle of 2024, but then I have forgotten to use it, sorry.

I have already try to increase the value of the potentiometer (2 => 5) the result seems horrible to me because it looks like a "lighthouse" and not a "pilot light"

Definitely no offense intended, lagaffe. I just knew that this excellent airplane was uploaded here "as is" with no technical support, so I didn't want to bother you all with it. I am aware that this is a 2020 build, and that those sometimes don't fully work as intended in 2024, so it's definitely not something I blame the plane or developers for. I'm just grateful for the gift (along with all your others).

I didn't actually mean to change the potentiometer index from 2 to 5 (that was because I copied/pasted from another systems file), however, I don't think it would make any difference because the lights, in this case, aren't tied to a dimmer. I changed it back to 2, and didn't notice any change in brightness. The main thing was replacing the stock LIGHT_ASOBO_GaugeSmall with the stock LIGHT_ASOBO_Gauge as a (not ideal, but functional) way to fly at night without the flashlight on.

Anyway, sorry I didn't think to contact you about it, and thanks again for all you do for the flightsim community.

There’s no need to turn my comment into a psycho-drama, I just specified that as the author of these planes, a small email would have interested me because in all modesty, I think I could have had an interesting answer on the subject or even give explanations. The case is closed for me.

Paul decided to stop the activities of GAS and then to make these addons public.
As in Oct 2024 years, we discussed the possibility of transforming one or both projects into native MSFS 2024 aircraft, I had the idea to get back to a bit of activity on his projects, which I worked on for almost two years and which he seems to know well enough to transform them effectively. I was waiting to finish the DC-4 so I could talk about it with Paul.

Under these conditions, having feedback or comments on the use of Stearmans on MSFS 2024 would be a good start.

Don’t forget to check out Lagaffe’s additional airshow model, too, when the library’s back in action.

(I hope the ops were able to IP-ban the library raiders.)
