Interesting scene sparks scenery question.....

First off, let me say that I couldn't build any scenery items for FS9 if I had to but I sure as heck appreciate all those that can !! That disclaimer out of the way.....

I was watching the Military channel the other evening and they were doing one of their "greatest fighter" countdowns and they happened to show a P-51 under some trees with camo netting covering acting as hangar doors. The groundcrew pulled back the netting (just like hangar doors would slide open) to reveal the Mustang in it's "hide".

It struck me that I don't ever recall seeing this type of hangar in FS9 and started wondering how hard it would be to do one of these nature-hangars leading out onto a simple dirt strip; or, if there may be one already out there and I just haven't seen it.

Would this be a difficult build and would anyone have any interest in doing it (assuming it could be done)? It could function equally for Allied or Axis forces (dual-purpose you might say).

Since we have a bevy of talented folks here at the Outhouse, I thought I'd toss the idea out and see what everyone thought. Just asking....:mixedsmi:

I had done some dirt strip parking holes for planes in my Operation Valkyrie package for the Africa airstrips. The Germans would dig a trench/wall around 3 sides of a parking spot for a bird. This protected the plane from bombs going off when the British were laying down some bombs to take out the airstrips. They also featured nets over the planes.

When I did mine, I simply made some basic hills, covered them with a dirt texture, and placed them in area's where the AFCAD had parking spots. I also did cammo nets with textures that had see through cool appearences.. But dang if those nets didnt cause a drop in frame rates, right down to about 3 FPS. So those never made it. Wish they had. Really looks cool.

Long story short, very possible, very easy. And I think Michaels Iraq scenery has cammo nets that work quite well.

I managed to get some of the CFS2 libraries to work with FSE (Lago) and they were placeable. there are a lot of interesting bit's and pieces that could be utilised. My tests so far with EZScenery were unsuccesful. Also I remeber there was something I had to do to get them to show up in FSE, think it was to package them up for sharing using the included utility, it then asked if I wanted them added to my FSE, I said yes. That was a long time and 1 computer ago, so I don't have the files anymore ans the memmories have faded somewhat. Some of the files wouldn't work, but I do remember the stock cfs2 and AF stuff worked. I also wanted to get Collin's fine ships in, but never got round to trying them.

I'll have to go and have a crack at it again, lots of CFS2 stuff would be great in GW3.
