Revisiting the Cloud 9 Phantom porting issue..

I still wonder if it might be possible to fix the F18 HUD in the VC. I am assuming if it was possible, Creepy would have already found a way to do this. The F18 HUD is fixed in - the default F18 - and I think it could be added and in a fixed spot in an earlier version of Dino's F14 (search simviation). Expect the reason it cannot and moves around when you pan is that one was never mapped to the vc when it was created. F-4's didn't have HUDs so maybe I will fly the C9 version the old fashioned way and maybe pop up the HUD for carrier traps.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of free time, i haven't enough possibilities to test deeply the latest beta, but it seems that the work of Hschuit, TuFun and all the other guys is going in the right direction, and we can assume that a very good Phantom is avalaible for FSX, now!
Just a quick question, is the button for jettison of the payloads still available somewhere or not?
Thanks in advance!

Having a few small issues with this port-over and I'm curious if these are my problems or shared by all:

1) Several of the sounds don't seem to work when corresponding controls are actuated from the VC - canopy open/close and flaps sounds, for example.
2) My flaps/slats operation from the keyboard/HOTAS is inconsistent - For instance, when I'm parked, I can retract the flaps first time using keyboard controls, but can't seem to extend them again. Activating with my mouse in the VC seems to work fine.
3) I can't seem top execute a turn of higher than 5 Gs without stalling - regardless of speed. Is this model somehow limited? (I've seen a maximum load factor of 5.58Gs quoted here and there). Curious!

Is there any way to change out the nav lights? I don't totally love them. :)

All and all though, I'm quite enjoying this old bird. As someone mentioned, this recent resurrection of F-4s is going to keep Milviz on their toes! :wavey:

Hi Odourboy,

I think that questions 1 and 2 are answered by using the beta 5 release posted in this thread and by using the magnificent sounds by Nigel. Don't forget to change the names of the airfile in your aircraft cfg accordingly.

Question 3 is somewhat puzzling: I fly at full realism and can easily "break" the plane, i.e. overstress it. G loads at lower speeds and full weight are indeed "very 60ies", but at low weights and high speeds I can yank the plane as I see fit.

For the nav lights, you'll have to ask the resident C9 Phantom gurus! :D

Take care,

Dumonceau

Currently it's beta 5. Which has the new AB effects. Surprised vonstroheim didn't use the on in the beta. Anyways how about this for watching your phavorite Phantom movies! The only item that's missing is the rocket pack underneath the bucket. It even has bungee cords that hold the trip rods to the drogue gun and TRM.

Are those Martin Baker 7 "0-0" seats?

Navy uses them also. Use to have a Martin Baker 0-0 decal on the rear of my old Honda 450 back in '67. :biggrin-new:

Some good info on the F-4 Phantom II Martin-Baker Mk. H-7 Ejection Seat

^ I'm an expert on F-4C,D,E,F, and G models. Also F-105F,G... A-10... B-52G, H models. :wavey: :biggrin-new:

I'm not sure what you mean by "expert" unless you were a crew chief and have knowledge of all the USAF MOS's - We call them NEC's.

I know it's a non sequitur to this thread but......
I was ordnance "expert" on the F-8's (BB Stacker) and the F-4 - B/J and all the A-4's and worked aircraft logs and records with the SH-3 SeaKing. :engel016:
Got my Aviation Warfare pin as well.

F-4's Do Howl!!

Title of the video = F4 Howling thru the forrest.

Ahem...., I finally found a video for those "Doubting" Thomas' that F-4's can and do make a moaning Howl. No, it's not a screech. :biggrin-new:

I think I got the angle just about right on the afterburners.

I would like to find just the related AB effect files. I thought there was a link here for just the AB files. In the Update beta 5 pack it's in there but is bits and pieces. Cannot discern
what is what or what is for what.

Appreciate it. :engel016:

There are 3 'bits' to an AB actuation...
First, copy the effects in the 'effects' folder to the effects folder in FSX.
Second, find and include/replace the following in the aircraft template.cfg file to your C9 aircraft.cfg...it's in the [lights] section

light.9 = 9, -16.4, -2.25, -3.40, fx_F4E_C9AB ;MOD, classic engine burner 1
light.10 = 9, -16.4, 2.25, -3.40, fx_F4E_C9AB ;MOD, classic engine burner 2
;light.9 = 9, -20.3, -2.25, -3.65, fx_F4E_C9ABU ;MOD, Alternative smokeless engine burner 1
;light.10 = 9, -20.3, 2.25, -3.65, fx_F4E_C9ABU ;MOD, Alternative smokeless engine burner 2
light.11 =10, -16.4, -2.25, -3.40, fx_F4E_C9AB_N ;MOD, burner 1 nighttime flame
light.12 =10, -16.4, 2.25, -3.40, fx_F4E_C9AB_N ;MOD, burner 2 nighttime flame

Finally add the included 'LVAR' switches to actuate the AB from the included panel.cfg to yours...

;LVAR switches/controllers for FSX
gauge29=Phantom_X!Engine_FX, 10,10,10,10

and replace any existing Phantom_X.cab file with the one included...;)

Meanwhile....step 1 of a wide-screen 2D panel....screencap of the VC.... Much to do...;)
