F7F Tigercat SOH Project

LOL Viper ... only 5'9" myself but feel taller in my stilettos :)

I have scaled the pilots up now to fill the cockpit a little more since lowering them allowed for that. Before I was constrained by shoulder width, but have a little more freedom to "bulk up" now.

That paint on the TEST model looks exceptionally realistic, GMan. I'm watching this one close as I'm a big fan of Milton's Tigercat. I could never get the "slow-start" gauge to work but I fiddled with the prop animation, and with Nigel's "Fast Cat" sounds... it looks and sounds realistic enough. Me wonders if the FDE will be the same, or are you gonna' take a look at that as well, Chief?

PS -- I too would like to see the "BAD KITTY" paint.... just say'n.

Thank you sir.

Not sure what Mr. Shupe has planned for the technical aspects of this build, but the FSX conversion is an open canvas.

I've been concentrating on the details of the texture mapping up to this point. I'll be releasing a paint kit once the model has had some shake down time and we won't be needing to make any mods.

I do have all of my original high def photos of the various restorations in my archive, so I can do the skins. I do not want to swoop all of the low hanging fruit, as other painters may wish to make use of the PK to this end. If there is, however, a consensus that I should create some skins, I'll be happy to accommodate.

Um...

I very well might be mistaken, but will these 'upcoming' Repaints work for FS 9, or are they WIPS for use with FSX and/or P3D only?

Well, I would be happy to paint an in-service scheme or two for any variant that doesn't come with one straight from the box. I've got some photos stashed for reference, and I am really pleased to know that there's a paint kit in the works! But you're better than I am with the paint brush, so I'd be very happy if you made some skins. Very happy indeed! Happy because you'd most likely do a better job than I would, and happy because it would save me time and effort that I could spend on things that nobody else is doing.

These paints are for the existing model as it will be released. The FSX/P3D version will have it's own set of textures, but I'm structuring my files so that they can be used as source material for the native bird. :encouragement:

Thanks for the clarification, gman! It's very much appreciated!

I'm working on the FSX/P3D native conversion. The skins are looking very good, with bump mapping coming into focus. At this point I need to develop skin stress for the fuse and H-stab and incorporate the height into the bumps.

Note that the canopy transparency issue relating to FSX/P3D is corrected. There will be quite a few details that will require mods, but I'll get them.

Below: Light study for skin reflection and bump height. Very WIP at this stage, but an indication of how drop dead gorgeous she is. These shots are all P3DV2.5.

Just LOOK at those gear struts! they look REAL! I like the "dingy" metal finish on the airframe too, looks like its been rained on, and someone needs to take a buffer to that metal.

Is this shot FS9 or FSX?

Hallo again,
as my vision of a Tigercats 2D panel is not really finished, it would be nice for me to fly the ship with prototype paint sheme. Would it be possible to get them?

All the above shots are in either FSX or P3D as the textures have not been converted to FS9 format. I just did "quick" conversion.

Here are some FS9 shots.

The shot you captioned is the FS9 model, on the tarmac and screen captured in P2D2.5. Confusing I know.
The model does work in 2.5, but there are display anomalies. Most notably, the skin has no reflection. The FS9 bird does have a very nice lightly oxidized reflective skin.

I've posted screens from the new FSX/P3D2 native model above with the cube maps and bumps enabled.

I'll start an FSX thread for the progress on the native conversion. Watch for the native pics there.

Glad you like the struts...

Tigercat 2D panel

Hallo Milton,

thank you for your apreciation.
I would be gratefull if you can tell me what I could do better.
Especially what I'm not yet happy is the engine controlls.
Could you advise me which would be fit best?
The other little problem is the airspeed gauge. As one can see I use
mainly the SOH A-26 gauges. For the F7F I need a gauge asame I use
on this panel but with the light caracteristics and quality as the A-26 gauges

Papi, I am not a panel artist or gauge person so that answer is best left to someone else.
Your results are quite stunning so far.

Why did you not use the A26 Airspeed gauge? It easily covers the range of the F7F's capabilities in knots.

Hallo again Milton,

the main difference between the A-26 airspeed gauge and the one I use are the way they display the aispeed-
the A-26 is a typical airspeed gauge as used in airforce aircraft, a simple circle with "linear airspeed numbering (oh my poor english sorry),
in navy aircraft the airspedd was indicated on two circles, a big circle with low airspeed and a n inner circle with the high speed indications, assame as on brithish aircraft.
The bad thing is that I have only very very little knowledge about programming a gauge, otherwise - - -
