F7F Tigercat SOH Project

Hallo again Milton,

the main difference between the A-26 airspeed gauge and the one I use are the way they display the aispeed-
the A-26 is a typical airspeed gauge as used in airforce aircraft, a simple circle with "linear airspeed numbering (oh my poor english sorry),
in navy aircraft the airspedd was indicated on two circles, a big circle with low airspeed and a n inner circle with the high speed indications, assame as on brithish aircraft.
The bad thing is that I have only very very little knowledge about programming a gauge, otherwise - - -

Your English is just fine Papi; I understand clearly.

If you have a gauge like the A26 ASI that covers the range, it is a fairly simple matter to change the gauge face bmp to agree with the look you want for the gauge (if you have graphics skills).

If not, then if you could provide a gauge face that looks like what you need, maybe someone here could paint a replacement bmp for the A26 ASI.
If the speed gradations are not perfect, that can be easily changed in the xml code by simply opening the bmp in paint to get coordinates (by pointing to each relevant gradation), then changing the xml code using Notepad to enter the new coordinates for those speed gradations as shown in the attachment.

Hallo Milton,

at first thank you for your answers,
as soon as I will get enough time I will try to make the apropriate airspeed gauge my self.
Now I still have some questions:
1.would it possile to get the main paint files for the "test" paint sheme?
even if they are in FSX format, I will than convert them for me to use in FS2004.
2. on the actual Tigercats the engine mixture must be adjusted manually.
didn't the real one have automatic fuel air mixture adjustement?
or as for the MAAM C-47 an automatic rich / poor "switch"
3. on the actual fs9 nightfighter version the radar operator post is not "living",
do you plan on the final version an operational radar operators VC?
I' m tempted to make the radar operators panel as a switchable 2D panel.
I only have a very poor photo from the rightside. Can you provie me photos or
drawings from this section, or tell me where I could get some doc?

Happy Landings

Papi,

Attached are pictures of what I have for the radar operator, 2nd seat position.

I have also upgraded the models slightly to enhance the 2nd seat as shown in the screen shots.

The F7F-1 TEST variant textures are still a works-in-process by gman5250. We must await his completion and release of those textures.

Regarding mixture, we have 2 options; manual or I can set the auto-mixture to =1 in the aircraft.cfg.

F7F Tigercat SOH Project, radio operator

Thank you Milton,

I hope to get the time to work on the radio operator section next week end.
With your docs it might be very possible to do something operational.
For my own use I impemented Eric Marcianos radar gauge, payware.
For an eventual public release I must still find a free operational radar gauge.
The airspeed gauge in navy style is very closed to be finished. I works fine with
the lightning as the other A-26 gauges. Just some details to do and it will be allright to my opinion.
If you are interested I will send it to you as a stand alone gauge.

Happy engineering

Good evening Milton,
sorry but I must say I'm angry, I'm sad - the gauge that seemed well is in fact trash!
I worked all the night on it. And than I did a test flight in the early morning, all was well.
Than on the day I tried a nother flight and the gauge was black !
H--- bu--sh-- ! I tried to regrogamm another varient of the gauge but the behaviour is not understandable for me.
at low speed the nedle make crazy movements.
So at last best will be to get contact with the creator of the A-26 gauges or somme other specialist who would perhaps have a
look on the gauge and help me to get it work as it should.
I would be fine if you can help me to get the right contact

Perhaps Fr. Bill (n4gix) could take a look at Papi's gauge and figure out a workaround...

Alan :adoration:

Well, perhaps I can find the issue. If not, then call in the experts, :)

The only thing that needed to be changed was the bmp and a few lines of simple statements.
Should not be a big issue.

F7F Tigercat SOH Project airspeed gauge

Hallo friends,
please drop me an email to

vaderteuton@aol.com

and I will send you as a return the incriminated gauge
I tried this way here but it seems that I'm too nerveous this morning

Papi,

Attached is the corrected gauge. Works very well here now.

I removed the fixed barber pole from the xml and removed the bezel.

I corrected the xml coordinates for the bmp for the speeds.

The gauge name and its reference in the panel.cfg were different and that is why it did not show.

I put the revised gauge in its own folder to keep the original gauge unchanged.

So, download the attached and unzip it; place the ASI folder in your panel folder.

Change the panel.cfg to add this line:

gauge31=ASI!F7F ASI, 372,482,91,89

Comment out the original ASI line as follows:
//gauge12=ST_F7F!ASI_700, 379,489,75,75

Here's a quick redo to inspire you Pappi

I "cooked" a quickie... of a WIP I think I will work on...

Thank you... do you per chance have a config. file for the disposition of the gauges in both cockpits?
It would be helpful to develop a decent 2D panel...

Thank you in advance...

G.

Gaucho,

Let me know if you need anything further.

Attached is the current 2D panel bmp and the panel.cfg.

Thank you so much for these plates....

I have done some preliminary work on it already...
To wit:

Could you kindly make available the gauges? with those in hand I can do the bezels...

Thanks in advance..

Hallo Friends,

at first please excuse me to answer so lately.
I had a hard week of work, and instead of sleeping I have jumped to my pc and looked at the Tigercat.
as you will see on the screenshot the gauge is allright now.
Thank you Milton for your help !
Just one or two little things that must be corrected and I will declare
the solo fighter 2D panel good for release.
I f you would use it for the project I will agree.
In this case we musst see how I could send you the whole baby.
Now I will "attack" the nightfighter version.
Thank you Gaucho, I will use your backseat bmp.
If the tanker panel is needed before I will do it first before the nightfighter.
There will be some differencies for the gauges and switches.
Ok, a take of breath and I will continue to make some thing usuable.

Happy engeneering

That paint on the TEST model looks exceptionally realistic, GMan. I'm watching this one close as I'm a big fan of Milton's Tigercat. I could never get the "slow-start" gauge to work but I fiddled with the prop animation, and with Nigel's "Fast Cat" sounds... it looks and sounds realistic enough. Me wonders if the FDE will be the same, or are you gonna' take a look at that as well, Chief?

PS -- I too would like to see the "BAD KITTY" paint.... just say'n.

BB686:US-flag:

Tom,

I guess I missed this post.

The "slow start" gauge works only in FS9 and I have it working very nicely there. The optional Engine slow start gauge was created for the A-26B/C R-2800 by Doug Dawson and is restricted to FS9. Not sure if he or Rob Barendregt could get this working for FSX, but I can ask. The only drawback in the current gauge (FSX aside) is that there is no sound capability available during engine turnover. We may be able to correct that now with Doug's new sound gauge, but he or Rob would have to speak to that.

The "FDE" or flight model was created and tested over time by Tom "Fliger747" Falley and is on the numbers and responds per the many test flight reports Tom had for reference. It has been used for 4 years in the annual RTWR. So, I am interested to know what your issues are with it and I will ask Tom to respond to them.

Papi,

I am glad the gauge works okay now, and I was happy to help.

Your work on the 2D pilot's panel is very nice; the screen shot looks great. :)

I am sorry that my VC work is so plain and simple and cannot measure up to the work you have done here.
Maybe you should be modeling the VC for this project. :) Do you use gmax??? :)
